Hey all~
I have a 1994 XL, 2 wheel drive with a 5 speed manual transmission. I've done a full emissions tuneup on it, runs extremely clean. Has a new transmission, only 5k miles on it. 135K miles total on the truck. New brakes on all fours, new fuel filter. Only real "mod" is a straight through thrush glasspack muffler, with everything around it stock... (will this make my gas milage go up or down doing just this??) Also, I'm wondering if there are any simple modifications I can do that won't hinder my gas milage too bad (or may even make it better) but will give me a little more zip. Any reccomendations to brands or good deals on say intake systems, computer chips... MAF sensors, cat back systems? etc etc?? I'm not looking to build an insane drag truck, just give it some more kick. Any positive input is welcome, thanks

George

If you want pictures of it email me at monkeydude3@cs.com and I'll be glad to show you

Here's a couple ideas for both performance and fuel economy. Use the search feature for details on anything below.

KKM open air intake. If CARB certification is an issue go with the K&N FIPK

Pro-M 70 mm Mass Air Sensor

BBK 66mm Throttle Body

Upgrade your exhaust cat back. go a 1/4" larger than current. Meaning likely

2.5" pipe. Pick the muffler more for the sound you want than the performance angle

And last but not least a chip. You choose the brand. Apten has a good reputation with most if not me personally. I would recommend shopping localy as reburns will be a lot easier, and if you go to the real engine mods they can custom tune while your vehicle gets a dyno run.

That all should set you back 1500 dollars but make you smile a bit more when you drive.

I should have asked what emgine is in there. My list is for the 4.0. If you have the 5.0 all that is still good, but a couple things will change slightly.

Then again when I think of 5.0 I remember my mustang and start thinking about heads, cams, and headers as well.

Can't find an intake kit for a 94 pretty sure there is one but here is some stuff i can think off and some prices also but if you look might be able to find better.

Granatelli High-Flow Mass Air Sensor - around $350+
Hypertech Power Tuning Module - around $220
JET Power Module - $240
Pacesetter Black Painted 1½ Inch Mild Steel Header - $220
Venom VCN 2000 Computerized Nitrous System With Palm Computer - $1330 ;)
BBK Single 66mm High-Flow Replacement Throttle Body - $220
Carsound Dual Direct-Fit, Pre-OBDII High-Flow Catalytic Converter - $190
B&M Racing ShiftPlus Electronic Shift Improver - $40
Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer - $110

just some stuff i could find by doing some searchs most the stuff looks to be in the 200+ range tho.

Good Luck.

oh I can't believe I left out my engine... all this working many hours until late has me tired... I have the 4.0L OHV V6... I love this engine. Are there any ways to tell the condition of your compression without testing it? ( have no means of doing this right now)
thanks man!!! i'll look into all that stuff

(by the way, is just putting a through glasspack muffler in my exhaust better or worse than stock?)

which engine has more HP the SOHC or the OHV/EFI? I thought it was SOHC not sure though...

Granatelli or Pro-M MAF, same thing, Explorerexpress.com has good prices on those. The MAF should be the last thing you get. Can't use a programmer on a first gen. Most of what I've heard about Jet chips is they suck, same with TB spacers. Pacesetter headers also suck, get BBK, JBA or Borla if you were to get headers, which I wouldn't recommend without plans for a S/C. Nitrous, if you want it :D BBK TB is good, should get that before the MAF. Highflow cat will free up a little HP. Don't have an electric tranny so the B&M electronic shiftkit won't help. You can get a vacuum one but they suck, I've had one. KKM intake, www.customz.com. This should be your first mod. Second should be a freeflowing catback exhaust. I had the Flowmaster Force II with 50 series muffler, 2.25", switched that with a 40 series, switched that with a Super 40 and dumped the tailpipe. Apten chips, I've got one, many others on this site have them, the best chip I've had and many say the same.
