need trans help

hey all this is my first time post. I have a 94 explorer 4x4 4.0 eng.
the trans went out in it so I got one from pick & pull. installed trans and have no reverse most of the time and have to manual shift it from 2nd in to drive to get it to shift. pulled pan and found shift solenoid burned. replace solenoid still the same then replace valve body with new gasket and its still the same. what could be causing this. any help would be appreciated as I am low on funds. :exp:

did you spend the extra cash on the warranty at the pick and pull? if so return it and get another. you said the shift solenoid was burned, so there could possibly be other damage. what color was the trans fluid when you pulled it?

I hate to tell you this but here goes......the tranny in a first gen explorer is CRAP. It will be a miracle if you can find a good used one,look for a wreck with less then 100K on it.

I put a rebuild in the old girl in October......$2300 cuz I was too lazy to R&R the old one.
