Should we update list of tuning devices/programmers that will fit our Explorers

Been searching high and low, Hensonperformance seems to be unreachable. SCT has new models, even Android versions.

I have to leave to go pick up body bolts or I would continue research, but we definitely need some newer options. I like the idea of the Android system as I am familiar with that but.... need more heads involved here.

Any input would be appreciated and thanks in advance. Jim

Would SCT x4 work on gen 3s ? Anyone with experience with the new version?

Im currently using an sct x4. On my 2004 eddie bauer 4.0 2wd. It came loaded with a tune straight out of the box. But i look forward to getting a custom tune after i complete my build.

How about the Android device tuners? Anyone used them yet?

Not to jack a thread but how much of a difference does one of these make on a 4.0

Well to adjust for tire size and speedo for starters, mpg would help too, I think. Emailed SCT will have to wait and see what they reply. And when the 4.0 dies, and I know it will, 4.6 or 5.0 will have to replace it. ICR what year they switched to 4.6 personally

This is the part number if one was to go the Android route from SCT

iTSX / TSX for Android Wireless Ford Vehicle Programmer - PN: 4015

Bummer you're having trouble reaching James Henson. I have his tune and running the 91 tune netted me a .5 second gain the 1/4 mile.

Bummer you're having trouble reaching James Henson. I have his tune and running the 91 tune netted me a .5 second gain the 1/4 mile.

I messaged him on FB, maybe he will write back. My main concern would be ability to recal the speedometer, improve throttle response and shifting mainly. Would be nice to have number readouts as well for mpg especially any timing irregularities since I have the 4.0, my second 4.0 in fact.
The bluetooth tuning modules look promising as far as the amount of information you might be able to uncover about the inner workings of the motor trans.

I also have a 4.0 2006 Mustang 5 speed. ( wife's daily driver) I emailed back SCT about the 4015 programmer, since it can hold 10 tunes. SCT stated I would have to have a separate module for the Mustang, but did not specify a part #.

My thought process on it was if I could use the same device on both vehicles. I know not at the same time obviously, but with it being able to store 10 different tune profiles, would it be possible to tune either vehicle with it.

This brings me to another point, I borrowed an OBDII scan tool from a friend, and while it worked fine on the explorer, it wouldn't even recognize being attached to the 06 Mustang. Which I thought was odd.
I recall reading that the OBDII pcm used a CANS (forgive me if I mangle this) *possibly the coding type or file system acronym. ( or it may have been PATS) Again going off of memory here. Which may have been the reason it wouldn't recognize the Mustang. Maybe needed a newer scan tool, or the scanner itself may have needed a firmware update ?? many possibilities here, since the vehicle was a salvaged title vehicle. Possible wrong wiring pinouts or pieced together harness. Or all of the above.

Sorry for rambling there. I would really love to hear if anyone has used or experience with the SCT4015 unit. I would like to purchase the item, but not two of them.

If you want to tune one at a time one SCT will work. Most tuners use VIN Lock. Meaning it scans and locks onto the VIN of the Vehicle and downloads and store the stock tune. Then uploads the modified tune. In order to move to a different vehicle you have to de-tune the current, upload the stock back to the vehicle, and unlock the VIN. After that you may upload a modified tune file to another car.

I am reachable but recently pulled my website down due to me firing the lazy web designers. As far as reaching me my email and phone numbers have been the same the last 10 years. Also Facebook is a joke in my eyes and rarely check it.

I'll try to give you a ring on monday, I'd like to know the best route to go with your product. I am about 5-6 hours from you as well. if bringing the vehicle adds any benefit to the process. But will be after I get some things straightened out with it. Waiting on BTF arms and spacers. And whatever else I may find in the process.
Thank you for the reply as well good to hear that its just web devs.

Would also like to add, that I have not found very many great reviews of the wireless bluetooth version of the programmer, and the app itself looks like it hasn't been updated since 2014. That is not a good sign. Regular updates and optimizations show they are constantly working on improving the use of the app. This fact alone makes me wary of the extra cost of the device itself VS one like the X4.
Just thought I'd share that observation.

Go with the X4 you will save yourself a lot of heartache.
