ok so after doing my smoked taillights yesterday, i was looking at my headlights and clear corners and was like ...hmmm they stand out too much.
So was thinking of slightly smoking them. Enough to remove some of the super clear/chrome look.
One thing i am afraid of is the evil rocks and sand. I live on a Island so winters are harsh and the roads are usually filled w/ sand. Last thing i want is my headlights and corners to have little chips and be smoked.
so what do you guys/gals think?

I think they would look good smoked. They will get beat up smoked or not. I would think it would be easier to cover them with the smoke paint then it would polish the lenses.

you are right but still i'm kinda scared to mess it up:confused:
the taillights don't really matter b/c they have the red..but w/ the headlights it has to come out prefect or else a small imperfection will be very noticeable.

i think i'm going to do a photoshopped picture and see how i like it...i'll post it when i get a chance to make one
But thanks for yout opinion:thumbsup:

There's really such thing as smoke paint? Translucent over the lenses?
Is there different levels of darkness? My X is black and I have been wanted black headlights and taillights since I go it.

Headlights and corners like these....

yes there is a tinting paint, although it can be difficult to get an even coat. I think whitney still sells the stuff if you want to play around.

There is but you don't get these results..
The level of darkness is based on how many coats of paint you use.
If you want to get that look PM me...i did that to my old truck(made the inside black and gave it that look)

yes JC WHitney does sell it but its a waste of $20. Like you said you can't get it to be even and you really can't get it to look like if was shoot w/ a spray gun

Ghoster, i am gonna have to disagree with everyone on this, i say leave the front lights the way they are. I think it looks so much cleaner the way it is. Also, can you post a pic of the taillights now that they are smoked?

i mite have to agree with mounty on this one... i think the bright housings compliment the bright gold trim... this is one of the cleanest explorers i have ever seen so tinting the lights will still look good, just not as good

I know it looks real clean right now but figured i might do something so they wouldn't stand out too much you know what mean.

I thought about it and i do agree w/ you guys. W/ the picture FROADER did for me..it IMO look like the light are maybe from another colored truck..doesn't look right. Maybe smoking them w/ the same color as the gold trim..but that won't look right either.
So for now i think i'm going to leave it as it is.
BTW bigapple--- i really do appreciate the comment bro! I just can't wait till i'm able to get some extra $ to do the other mods i have in stored (rims first hopefully 22s)

mounty- i opened a thread w/ more pics but here are a few

yea u got a good point man.... keep that paint in good shape... i will say im not a huge fan of big rims, but ill give respect where its due cuz uve done ur share of hard work on this thing... cheers:thumbsup:

Those taillights look great! You went just dark enough, i personally don't like when people black them out, it's not like a giant black shape on a car looks better than a big red one. :dunno:

thanks..i love off-roading also but w/ a Eddie Bauer IMO it better to have the luxurious look instead of 4X4 look...but thats just me
once again thanks for the comments:thumbsup:

Completely agree w/ you about people blacking them out. I think this way the taillights don't stand out too much but still looks like it could had come like that from Ford

hey dan did you ever do your exuast?

hey dan did you ever do your exuast?

I got everything to do it (had to get some adaptors made b/c the muffler i got is a 3" inlet/outlet) but haven't done it b/c i want to bring it to the dealer to get the rear end fixed. It makes that annoying whine when going 55mph+
