Let me start off by saying this forum is awesome and has a wealth of information. Happy to be a part of it.

With that being said, I just bought a new platinum today. I'm impressed with what it could be I guess. There were some paint defects, chip paint Mark's, some paint over spray or something behind the door, and the rear doors don't seem to be aligned properly with the rest of the car to me. My dealer agreed to fix it all so not to worried about that just expected better quality leaving the factory.

The technology and interior are beautiful, but expected a little better performance and cant get over the disappointment. I got this trim and car for the EcoBoost and performance. Just slower than what I expected.

Was anyone else expecting more performance or is it just me?

I also own a 2018 Platinum. It's my second Platinum -- I traded my 2016 for the 2018. While neither of my Explorers had the paint and fitment issues you discovered, I noticed both my 2016 and 2018 Ecoboost engines were underwhelming during the first thousand miles or so. I think it's a matter of letting the engine break-in mechanically while the onboard control computers learn your driving style. After going through the break-in phase, the performance of both of my Explorers improved noticeably.

BTW, I always use 93-octane Top-Tier fuel in my Platinum. I understand I don't have to do this, but it comforts me to do so.

That's comforting to hear. Trying to burn through the dealer fuel now.

So I'm correct with the rear doors being off a smidge?

Normally the doors wouldn't bother me but if you look at the panel crease of the door and then the rear, it isnt lined up and that is what would drive me nuts.

I'm worried that's they'll try to adjust it then all the lines along the side will be off.

Yup. If it was my car, I'd ask the dealer to address the misaligned door(s). That should have been caught and corrected at the factory. Failing that, the dealer should have identified and fixed the problem(s) during pre-delivery inspection in my opinion.

Please let us know if you're successful in having these issue addressed at your dealership.

'Normal' issues.

I had to have my entire vehicle repainted due to some pops beneath the clear coat. I didn't even catch it until my detail guy did. As far as alignments--those can be fixed.

Any car anywhere isn't going to come out perfect, not to excuse the quality faults.

My driver's door is a little misaligned and I pointed it out to the service manager. They said they would look into fixing it and if necessary send it to a body shop. Since it is a lease, I told them to just note the issue and I may have the work done at a later date. As for performance, I am very happy with that. It is after all a 4500 lb SUV not a sports car.:D

I just got an 18 Sport, and have nothing like those alignment issues. My 16 didn't either. Yes, insist they correct it.

Had take the tune off the 16 and send the tuner back to Livernois to get coded for the 18.
The new one feels like a Prius in comparison with no tune on it. The wife asks every day when the tuner will get back. Heh heh
