Hey guys ok I am desperate at this point I just picked up an 1998 Explorer Sport ... long story short I bought a new battery to bring it home, it died two days later I noticed since I drove it home the voltage in the dash was measuring very low. I kept driving it anyways until it died, so I changed the alternator and still no change the battery light stayed on and still registering as low voltage. Ok this is what I do know so far, alternator is good I changed it out twice cause first two were duds, I also exchanged my battery cause the alternator killed it. I have been doing some reasearch and I think it may be some kind of fuse of some sort, but I am not to sure. I did find on here something about a 175 amp fuse but I don't know where to find it. Please I desperately need help solving this problem, money is tight so I can't go to a mechanic we will tackle this ourselves if at all possible.

So now where does my proccess of elimination start to find the culprit, and please directions to find it would be great.

What motor you got?
Also get a voltmeter and go out and see if you have 12volt at the batt. post on the back of the alternator. If so your fusible link is still good and we can go from there.

Ck fuse number 14 in power disribution, it is a 30 amp mini fuse. Also double check fuse number 15 a 7.5 amp mini fuse in instrument panel fuse box.

Where can I find the power distribution box and is that different from the instrument panel fuse box? Also I have a multifunction tester ... is that the same as a voltage meter? If so what setting on the voltage meter do I use to reads voltage or amps?

The power distribution box is under the hood. A multimeter has various settings for voltage, current, resistance, continuity, etc. Some meters have an autorange mode to simplify the reading. If you are using the manual range setting, then set the voltage to 20 VDC to read the 12 - 14 volts in the vehicle.
