New D44 axles $1400 from Chrysler

Has anyone seen this in 4-wheel and Offroad (April). Hub to hub with a locker and a 4.10 ratio factory fresh $1,400 front or rear. It seems to good to be true.

The real question is would this axle be a good candidate for a solid axle swap on our vehicles?

yes

They said they're "just over $1400 and some change".

Unlike most other D44s, it does look like that axle might actually have some significant strength improvements over the D35, although if the width they state is correct, its just as wide as a fullsize truck axle (F-150, etc).

If these are the axles in the new jeeps, the bolt pattern is different, I believe they are running a 5 on 5 versus the old 5 on 4.5.

yes and they are 5" wider than the TJ's

Junkie you were right $1400, still seem like good price. Yea they are 5 on 5.

I think you are still gonna have to upgrade the shafts. Especially since our EXs weigh a good bit more than a jeep. I've wheeled with Rubicons shouldn't they have a similar axle? And they bent or broke shafts with tires under 35". Its not a bad start at an axle, but considering you still have to do something with the bolt pattern and suspension mounts, you might as well get a older used 44 for a heck of a lot less and then upgrade it. I'm gonna expect that they are marketing these towards the bolt on jeep crowd.

Ok, i read the 4Wheel article again. They did compare it to a TJ Rubi axle and they say its stronger. But i still think its easy to get a old HP Dana 44 for a couple hundred and upgrade from there. Guess I just like the idea of building things myself...
