Hello all,

I just picked up this 2003 Ford Explorer XLT. True Blue clearcoat metallic exterior. I am new to the Explorer world but not to Ford.

A few pics and details about the truck.

A few things i've noticed in the week i have owned it. 1. There seems to be an extremely small slow leak of what i believe is oil. Im not exactly sure where it is coming from. Possibly the oil pan gasket?

The previous owner had the trans rebuilt in August 2012 (with receipt)

2. I have the popular ford Rear hatch crack, below the back window. Iv been reading and it seems to be an expensive fix thats not exactly "needed"

3. The center console rattles like a mother f'er. I tightened every screw i could find and noticed rubber stops on either side of the underside of the console lid. It appears im missing 1 which maybe the problem. Question is, can i purchase a rubber stop, if so, will it just be pushed in?

Also, as i stated before, i am not new to Ford.

your oil leak looks like a trans leak, or it was serviced recently, the trans, red fluid is trans, the oil could be residue of an oil change. when the filter is removed, it will leak on the right side of the trans lines / motor.

i would just spray it down clean it up and see if it comes back. the trans or oil could of been serviced recently.

While cleaning the interior, i popped off the plastic trim in the trunk. Found all of this crap, straw, beans, seeds, dirt, sand. The most random stuff.

and of course as soon as i finish with a quick wash, it begins to rain.

By the way, am i missing a plug, or bolt, or screw here?

Thanks for the help, are there any threads where questions such as mine have been asked for newbies like myself? Thanks

probably, the search feature also works to find most common things.

Welcome aboard!! :salute:

Ever figure out the leak?

Ever figure out the leak?

Sadly no, but iv kept up on maintenance and just rolled 135,000 miles. So I'm assuming it's nothing catastrophic or I wouldn't be riding around.

Since the last time iv posted I added the following.
A k&n air filter
Sylvania head light bulbs
Sylvania brake light bulbs
Changed the fuel filter.
Continental tires all around
New wiper blades

My explorer is still running but a few complaints.

I get horrible gas mileage. Last few times iv calculated and averaged 15 - 16 mpg mixed driving.
My heat has a mind of its own. I took it to a shop. I was told it is not the blend door actuator, but in fact the blend door. IV been freezing my as off in this never ending NJ winter.

I think that's it for now, I am probably forgetting something

I have a similar oil leak, I haven't been able to trace down yet either. Every time I check the oil level though it's fine, so I haven't worried about it.
