Hello all. Just to introduce myself. Diehard Ford fan here. My current rides are the 91 GT and 01 Excursion (that was hard to find!) in my signature. Joined this forum as my wife just traded her 09 Wrangler X on a 2010 Explorer. Local lots only have leftovers and I wanted the tried and true "original" so we went with the 2010. We got a pretty good deal on an optioned XLT. It is white suede with the black leather heated seats, SYNC, moonroof, 17" aluminum wheels tow package, third "row". Got the V6 as the only ones left with a 4.6 were 1 EB locally. Wife didnt loke the color combo. You ask why we traded the Wrangler? It was a POS. She had two TJ's before and when we had a second kid we traded the 06 Rubicon on a new Sport Trac. Ended up with an Unlimited in 09 after the bugs were worked out (4 door came out in 07). It had the lifetime powertrain warranty. Plans were to add a 2 1/2 lift, bigger wheels and tires, etc. Anyway, we found out quickly the motor was completely gutless with the auto so the plans had to include gears. The mailman warned her to watch the oil level and I dismissed it. Well, in between the last oil change, it drank 1 1/2 quarts of oil and the coolant level was below the min mark. The timing cover was seeping oil as was the drivers side headgasket. Anyway, those issues just prevented us from ever modifying it as the dealer was very clear that any lift at all would void the powertrain warranty. i didnt want to foot the bill for a motor in the future. This thing had 17,000 miles and had never seen mud. Those issues and the internet reports of catching on fire (it was recalled with notning more than a tranny temp dinger) caused her to get disgusted and look for something else. This is on the agreement that I will find her an older TJ to make into a play toy. Plans are small for the Explorer- TRUXX lift and maybe some black alloys and nice AT tires with some tint. I cannot believe how good it drives. Anyway, glad to join and look forward to posting.
