New garage at the Horwitz house

Since I started working on my Dodge Dart about 4 years ago, the Pumpkin lost it's home and had been stored outside. For three years the Mustang was stored outside under a cover. Since the Dart has been finished, I moved the Mustang back into the garage, but we needed more room to store vehicles so I could work on new projects in the attached garage.

To fulfill our needs we're building a 30x40 garage in the backyard for storage only, not as a shop. We broke ground on the project today getting the pad cleared of all the oleanders, piles of rock, sand, etc. Now we're just waiting on the county for our permits. Unfortunately, unlike Jeff, I won't be doing any of the construction on this garage as I'm woodworking challenged;) We hired a contractor for this project.

Here are the first shots.... Nothing much to see, but I guess that's the point at this stage:D

Because of the way we have the landscaping set up around the house, we won't even be able to see the garage from the back of the house looking straight back. That's perfect as it won't get in the way of our view.

He finally got back to me. I retrieved all the funds I had paid out of pocket and removed my post from Facebook.

Good riddance.
I like your style!

He could have saved time, money, and aggravation if he would have taken care of it sooner. At least you don't have to deal with him again. He lost a good paying customer because of the way he handled it. I'm glad that you managed to get the money from him without further action. A lot of people aren't so fortunate. I see this situation on a regular basis where I live.

Not getting what you paid for, or having issues with what you paid for sucks. You have every right to be upset, and let others know by warning them to be careful by publicly giving notice. I do think that them owning up to it, and taking care of those charges was the right thing to do, and they do deserve credit for that. If they didn't make it right, then they deserve what they get.

I am in the Construction field, and I have to rely on the vendors we use to do their work properly. I can't be there the entire time they are there to make sure they do their job right either. When they screw up, which they all do eventually, they are given the opportunity to make it right. If they don't then we part ways and they get back charged for the crew we send to fix their screw up. It's construction, and it is always Chaos. We all expect jobs to go smooth, but the truth is something always happens, and it's how the issue is handled from both sides that really matters. We're all just humans, and we're all flawed.

Glad your issue had a good resolution and taken care of at the end of the day. 👍

Good you got reimbursed.

Dumb that it took negative comments online, excuses, and long response time.

My local electricians are ungodly busy. Most are giving themselves bad reputations of no call back or no show…

Our county is a PITA. I submitted plans for an RV shade structure on 7/31. They were not reviewed until 8/21. They made some markups on the reviewed plan showing me what I need to fix. I made the first draft sitemap myself by adding to the sitemap that was submitted when the garage project was being done.

When I resubmitted the same site plan, with only the addition of the RV Shade, they kicked it back saying they want to see septic, easements, etc etc. I had to find someone who specializes in sitemaps to draw up a new one. I submitted it on Monday, and just recieved notice that it will not be reviewed until 9/22. Of course it is still open for them to make new markups on the new sitemap starting the process over.:banghead:

I completely understand why so many build without permits out here. I just don't want to risk the investment. With my luck they would make me tear it all down if I didn't do it right.

Wait? Building Things requires permits?

Kidding of course!

We upgraded the Roomba in our house to the new model which vacuums and mops since most of our flooring is tile. I am now using the old one in the shop. The Roomba's filter picks up nearly as much as the dust bin. I just blow it out with compressed air, outside, regularly. This will help keep the cars, and the A/C units clean. Best part is it fits under the tool boxes and benches without getting stuck. No more dust bunnies under there.

That's a great idea!

Geeeeeeze how cool is that! My cats would love it.

Do they make a heavy duty shop cleaning version yet? The robots are coming!!
We need one that can deal with entire piles of “floor dry” at once

A dedicated shop version would be amazing.

Expensive but it exists!

Let there be light!

I was issued a building permit today for the RV Shade. Too late for summer, but still looking forward to it being done.

still better than LA county

Isn’t winter construction time for you southerners? Lol

What are those lights you have on the lift? LED strip lights or are they
Made specifically for your lift?

Glad you got your permit to build a rv shade… sheesh

Year 'round construction here. :D

As soon as I got the permit I called the RV shade company and placed my order. There is a two month wait for the materials and then I have to go on their list for installation.:banghead: Hurryup and wait!

Here are links to the LED strip and the aluminum channel it lays in.

Smart!!!!

Always something with the county. The new sitemap passed with no problem. Paid some more fees and was given a list of inspections they said I would need.

First inspection was for drainage and slope. I told them what was going on and they agreed there was no need for that. Next thing I see is that an appointment had been made for me to have the footers installed. Only problem is that no work has started and the shade structure materials hadn't even been ordered until I had the permit in hand this week. Materials won't arrive for about 2 months!

Hurry up and wait...

As Rick said, it's year round. Working on a black roof in June is brutal. In the cellular industry what happens is, the project manager will walk the Phoenix or Tucson sites in the winter so they're approved for building in the summer and places like Flagstaff they get walked in the summer so you're hanging off a tower in the winter when it's 0 degrees out, looking forward to that 10 degree high temp for the day.
