2008 Explorer Limited
Now that I've made the purchase, I'm wondering how reliable the electronics on this model Explorer are, since there are a lot of electronic gadgets. It even has retractable running boards. My wife says I have just bought an albatross, but it's a gorgeous machine! Just checking in here and wondering if any of you have info about this truck - 2008 Explorer Limited. Thanks, and I look forward to having a group of informed enthusiasts to talk to. Dave

Hi Dave!! Lol. I am new as well, but sounds like we bought similar trucks. Mine has the power running boards too, as well as SYNC, but it doesn't understand me very well. Lol

Hi Dave and 2stangs8689,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new-to-you Explorers! :)

If you have any SYNC questions, I'm here to help. You can also check out our support page that has tons of useful information. Crystal is also here to help with any other vehicle concerns or questions you may have. She can be reached at FordService.

The electronics are pretty reliable, OldGold. Like with any vehicle, take care of it, and it will take care of you. it is the 4.0 or 4.6?

You hear different things about the power running boards. Ours (2006) are still original and still working. The passenger side seems a bit slower than the drivers side, especially in this cold weather. I try to keep ice and other debris clear of the hinges. I also open them (manually thru the setup dash system) when I enter a carwash, so the guys can spray them off well (close them before the carwash starts pulling you in). I hear that you should lubricate the hinges periodically. I have not done that (purchased in 2009), but intend to do so this spring.

If you have the power-fold 3rd row seats, chances are, the motors/gears will likely fail on you. Cost $250 for parts per side, not including labor (I replaced both myself, took me about 6 hours).

If you are very concerned, consider an extended warranty. Ford's warranty is very good. We had the PremiumCare warranty transferred from the original owner, and used it for a few things.

Congratulations and Welcome, Like any vehicle on the market you can and sometimes do have things go bad. There are probably very few things that can go wrong that can not be fixed yourself unless you like paying others to do that for you! I myself have a 2008 and Electronically it has been a very reliable vehicle.

I have been lucky with my power seats - not sure how much longer.
I have an 06 bought used in 07, I am at 175k miles, and with 2 kids and their friends using the back, they still work. I just always make sure there are no obstructions when I lift them.
