2013 Explorer Limited 4WD
After 2 weeks of the dealership trying to locate a vehicle for me, they have submitted a factory order for my 2013 Explorer Limited. Sterling Gray, Charcoal interior with a 301A and Dual-Panel moonroof which is apparently very hard to locate in NJ. This is gonna be torture waiting for this to come in but hopefully my order priority of 10 will stay that way and help get me my new ride faster. Pretty amped up for my new Explorer!

Congratulations on your order! Keep us posted on your new Ex's progress :)

Thanks! The long wait begins - order date was 12/14 so I'm hoping by the end of January but who knows with the holiday layoff. Not sure if my order will stay at a priority of 10....

Here's the thread for the Gray Ghost, our 2013 Sterling Ex. It'll give you a little idea of timings for delivery (though the holiday might stretch your timeline a bit), and something to read (not that there aren't a jillion threads to read on here already) while you are waiting :)

Thanks for sharing the thread - truck looks awesome in Sterling Gray. Hopefully mine follows your timeline - can't wait to get in my new Explorer. My dealer is still looking to locate one in the meantime, but I'm thinking it'll probably be worth the wait to just have it direct from the factory and have no test drives or anything on the ride. Thanks again!

Congrats! I am playing the waiting game as well. We ordered on 12/5, and we got the VIN # the following week. I am anxious!

If your order was submitted as a priority 10 it will not change unless the dealer manually does it.

So is it typically 10-14 days to obtain a VIN# for the order?

Mine was scheduled and given a vin 3 days after I ordered. They do the scheduling on Thursdays so I would check on Friday to see if it changed.

Congrats, goodfellaz! I know you and I have already been in touch over PM, but I wanted to extend my congratulations here as well. I'm happy to give you weekly updates on your Explorer's status; hopefully it'll make the wait seem a little easier.

Exactly right, Riley!

The VIN is usually assigned after your vehicle receives a schedule to build date, and that depends on your dealer's allocation and the plant manager's discretion. I'll let you know when your vehicle is assigned a VIN when you check in for your weekly update.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Crystal

Thank you so much Crystal - can't tell yet if updates are gonna make the wait easier or just have my counting the days haha

Got my first update from my dealer today. They claim that Ford had put a stop order on Explorer production and were not giving any allocations to dealers. According to them, Ford said "there's too many Explorers out there" and that production would be halted until about 10 days from now. My original timeframe of 4-6 weeks (ordered 12/14) has now been changed to 4-6 weeks from when they claim Ford will start producing Explorers again (would put delivery sometime in mid to late February). Not sure if I believe them or not - waiting to see if I can find out some more information.

I don't think they are telling you the truth. I ordered mine 12/15. Had a VIN right before Xmas and it is in production this week and an ETAto the dealer of 1/21. I do not know off any stop in production by Ford on the explorer. There were rumors going around and Crystal the Ford Rep put those rumors to rest several weeks ago !!!!

Does anyone know how dealer allocations work? I found out that mine was the only factory order for an Explorer from my dealer. Do they then have to submit the queued orders to be built by Ford or does Ford just build them as they receive a confirmed D.O.R.A.? I could only think that maybe the dealer was not submitting the order for production since they'd use their Explorer allocation for just my vehicle instead of multiple orders.

Lengthy read but gives some insight to the madness of allocation. Kind of intersting how much goes into it.

Mine was ordered 12/5 and built yesterday. It is showing up on Ford Etis site and in the sync website. I have an eta of 1/21, changed from 1/14.

Finally picked up my new Explorer today! After almost 12 weeks of waiting, I love my new ride. Ordering was the way to go for me, as now I have my Explorer exactly the way I wanted it. Many thanks to Riley and Crystal for all the updates and information they provided along the way. Here's a few cell phone pics:
