Hi, I just recently bought a used ‘99 Explorer, and have encountered a few problems. Did I mention this is my first car? Anyway the issue I want to fix as soon as possible is the fuel gauge, at first it rose past full when driving, now it stays there regardless of actual level. I think it’s the anti slosh, scouring google, my question is this, can I simply rip it out and get it working, or is there more work involved? And if I can’t scrap the module, how do I bypass it to make the gauge work?

They sell a fuel level sender seperate from the fuel pump though I can't remember the cost but it's cheaper than buying a $400 fuel pump.

I thought it was the anti slosh sensor, not the one for fuel level?

Then again, there’s a separate issue with the engine coolant temperature sensor reading too low, like below zero. One of the causes for that I found was bad wiring, with both of those problems could if just be a wiring issue?

My coolant temperature gage reads "below zero" when cold, significantly so. Seems to vary between vehicles. It's more "below zero" than my 2000 Sport was.

My prior 96 Explorer actually had a bad gage unit inside the cluster that caused it to read cold all of the time. You can replace just the side (fuel and coolant level gages), you don't have to replace the entire cluster. If a replacement gage is available it might be worth a try, since both your fuel and coolant gages are off.
