2011 Limited 4WD
Hello All,

I just wanted to introduce myself.

We picked up a 2011 Explorer just the other day. Apparently, some knucklehead ordered a tricked out Limited and never ended up buying it. I don't know the details of what happened with him, but we took the car.

It is a limited with the 301A, tow package, rear dual DVD, rear bucket seats and rear console, 20" polished alloy wheels and cross bars. I also extended the warranty to 7 yr / 75k.

We are now going through the learning process and I hope to learn from this forum and perhaps make some contributions myself.

Regards,
R

Congrats,
You are gonna love it. Nicest vehicle I have ever owned. And I used to be a chev man. Not anymore.

Welcome to the forum. There's always great information here. You'll love the car. Spend some time immersing yourself in all the controls and screens. You'll see this is a revolutionary car. I spent 3-evenings in my driveway with an ale or two setting everything up.
You must get SYNC set up and get to know that website. Download updates on a memory stick from your home computer, then take the stick out to the Exploder and upload all the updates! It's free and it's cool. Plus, then Ford keeps track of your system version, and prompts you for future changes! Each time you do an update, you must re-pair your phone to get those updates too. I could go on and on about this stuff. If you have any questions, let us know.
Look under the driver's seat; there an air compressor and emergency kit there!

Thanks for the welcome, all.

Boss, I can't get in the car because my Wife has not gotten out of it. :-)

Regards,

Just picked up my new X today, what a sweet ride. I got the Limited with 302A in Black with Pecan interior. It's all that I imagined plus. This site was such a great find, I've been lurking for a while, figured I join. Thru this site I discovered the $750 private cash back offer, plus how to get an ESP much below what the dealer was charging. My dealer was great about it though he matched the price I had gotten on-line. Still tinkering with all the bells and whistles.

I picked up my Bronze/Charcoal 301A on Thursday. It's awesome. Still working on getting all the controls figured out, but I love it.

I cant believe all the complaints I've heard on here; this Ex is most advanced vehicle I've ever seen...like piloting a space shuttle....what's not to like?

welcome on board!

congrats! watch out, that knucklehead might be one of us here who gave up!

anyway, how much you paid for the extended 7yr/75k warranty?

Originally put forth at $2195. I talked him into $2100 with the $50 deductible and a thrown in cargo cover / shade.

Maybe not the best price possible, but I felt ok about it. We just got rid of a 2001 truck and it only had 97k miles on it...I can always update the warranty if it seems we are putting more on it than I thought we would.

Quick comment:

The truck itself, mechanically, is great so far. Handles nicely, and I really love the 4x4 features. The car is quiet inside, smooth and I love the ride.

The software...well guys, it just sucks. My cell phone GPS (Android with Google Maps) blows the Ford Nav out of the water - POIs are often wrong and the scaling is not very good. The screen responsiveness is dubious and the settings / menus are not very intuitive. I can't say even the simplest of things like "navigate to laguardia airport" without first selecting POI categories, etc.

My expertise is in medical software and GUIs, and I can tell you that these guys should just start over from scratch.

So am I complaining? Absolutely not. Software revs will improve usability and stability as time goes on. I would rather have these kind of problems than actual "car" problems.

Sometimes it is important to remember what we bought...the Ford Software is NOT why I bought this car.
