New roll over member? (do front flips count?)

Well boys, she's done.

Was heading home on this little two lane country road going home.. it was pretty bad out and no salt had been run here yet (it's kentucky) so I was going well under the 35mph speedlimit. Went over a bridge and hit ice going into a turn. Yanked the wheel to the left and applied brake firmly but didn't slam. It kept pulling right so I basically held on for the ride.. went down a 10ft embankment, hit the front end, did a front flip and ended upside down stuck in my chair :thumbdwn: . had 3 other friends in the car.. all wearing our seatbelts (thank god). Everyone came out ok.. a little sore.

I shut it off as soon as I realized we were upside down.. mechanicaly it's fine but the body work does it in money wise. Insurance will cover it, I had full.

We were lucky.. if I had been going faster and slid 10 more feet we would of ended up in a creek.. and it was around 18*'s outside when it happened. I dunno if anyone woulda made it out... it took me what seemed like forever to get out. Eventually just pushed myself up with my left hand and beat the **** out of the seatbelt until it let me go.

well pretty much what you said.
Insurance co cuts you a check and you give them the keys and say a teary eyed good bye.

One tip for ANY body who gets in an accident.
BEFORE the insurance adjuster looks at your vehicle, clean and wash your vehicle.
Make it look as well kept and cared for as possible.
That will usually cause the adjuster to put a bit higher " value " to the vehicle.

Hmm.. so they don't just go by a blue book value?

That sucks. Sorry to hear about you losing your nice truck. There's always another one out ther, but it doesn't make it any easier.

Let the insurance man take it away....We don't need TWO "Explrcnvrtbls"! :D

Thats a bummer man..

Yea, clean the inside up really well. I got screwed over, because mine was towed to an impound lot. It was full of glass, mud, grass, snow.. and I got a lower price, because the adjuster didnt think the interior was 'nice'. F%#* that.

Oh.. and trail rig? :D

The adjuster will nickel & dime you.. The Geico adjuster only gave me $100 for my tires initially and didn't realize there was a CD changer in the center console. Needless to say the first quoted value of $5575 for my truck was changed after he found out about the add-ons.. Luckily I bought the truck back for $575, the going rate for a salvage yard purchase.

Foo:
Although I hope you get another Explorer, a 4.6 sounds like a good move. Maybe take Blee1099's advice and buy it back no the cheap so you have a dedicated toy, or you could part it out.
Either way, glad everyone's OK most of all.
Karl

Foo, they go by the blue book but it curves on the condition of the vehicle.
Not to mention if it does ever go to a body shop nine times out of ten the techs will show the vehicle more respect if it is well kept.

I would not even buy that back for a trail rig.
Getting the windshield pillar back where it belongs just enough to get the glass to seat is gonna be a nightmare.

Oh, BTW: You are now part of the Rollover posse! A front flip is called a Flop!

Sorry to see you X like that. :(
There have been WAY too many people that have rolled/flopped their X in the past 2 months. :thumbdwn:

glad you're OK... I would buy it back and turn it into a dedicated trail machine... but I don't know how much off-roading you're willing to do.

Flop is a nice way of describing it.
:)

Aaahhh, hook a come-along to it, wrap the other end around a tree and yank it back. Then a little Bondo, some Aluminum tape and a couple of spray bombs will make it look as good as new!!! :D

gut your stereo equipment before they get there, and make sure there is some kind of headunit in the dash (can be anything, just fill the hole.)

pull your speakers, put doors back together, make everything look nice again, they dont bonus for GOOD parts!!!!!

Got quoted, then went down and took the tires/speakers out :).. I had already got my sub/amp/ wiring kit. I also took the overhead console.. hehe

Isnt that where the X took the hit?....It wasn't broken?

Foo don't worry it will buff out! :p

Glad to here your all OK

There is truth to the "nicer it looks, the more you get for it" stigma- The insurance adjuster who checked out Blackjack obviously didn't know his Explorers since he gave me $600 extra value for my "GT package" :D With $5600 worth of damage Jack was very close to being totalled... I honestly think that little bit extra is what kept it from happening. The adjuster also told my body shop guy that my truck was in "above average shape" and very clean and cared for.

Sorry to hear about your flop- I hope you can get another X!

Getting a pontiac GTP... finally.. some power..
