- 2002 Explorer XLT
I recently acquired my Dad's 02 Explorer. Since I am new to owning a Ford, I found this site with plenty of useful information.
I am in the process of changing out all the fluids since the Explorer is approaching 75K miles. So far I replaced the trans fluid, transfer case fluid, power steering fluid, front & rear differentials. Out of all the fluids I replaced the rear differential was the dirtiest. I replaced all fluids with synthetic.
I took me two trips to the autoparts store to get the correct trans filter. Since this is my first time replacing the trans filter I wasn't sure which one was the correct filter, now I know.
I have yet to replace the engine coolant, gas filter and spark plugs. I should be set for fluid changes for a while.
