1996 Explorer XLT
Hi, new member and almost new transmission on my 96 XLT 2 wheel drive. Transmission ended at 245,000 miles and I was curious if that's low, average or high in terms of use.

Tried the new rebuilt trans today, it seems to have a little bit of a slip in first gear but otherwise smooth. I bought it from factor in 1995 winter and it is in excellent shape (living in southern California) and 70% of those miles are long drives from LA to Canada at least once a year.

Just curious if 245k is average for my XLT. I am planning to keep it as long as I can.

way, way, above average

Above average. Not way way above. I got 7 cars. One with 230k, (Toyota) 2 with 170k, (Chevy and Lexus) one with 160k, (Mazda) one with 150k, (Lexus) one with 200k, (explorer), and my lowest miles is 110k. (Mazda)They have all been fantastic.

For a V-6, it's outstanding

For a V-8, it's good

Just curious, were you using Mercon V?
I'm at 211,000 with it, and flushed every 75,000 miles on the 4.0 sohc

I'm impressed you guys are getting such high miles out of your 5r55e's.
I have had 3 different rebuilds. I think the overdrive one-way bearing was overlooked the second time, so far, so good this time (Its been a couple years now since my last rebuild).

I have heard other guys state regular fluid flush's, and band adjustments seem to keep these transmissions working well.
