NEW WHEEL PROJECT - which do you like?

im sure everyone knows my wheel situation by now, because im basically an idiot and i have more than a shred of OCD about stuff like this :) but come winter holidays time, im doing the wheel thing again. which wheels do you like:

(*the first 2 wheels are the same - one is chrome and one is silver)

3) i like the chrome 5 stars from a lincoln LS, but i have no idea if theyll fit or not. i just thought of it today, so i havent had time to research it yet, maybe someone here knows if theyll fit?

i like chrome on a lot of rims, but on those i think the silver looks nicer. i dont know about the lincoln ls, i thought it was front wheel drive.

damn! lee, i think youre right about the fwd. on well, i like those silver ones too. theyre cheap too :) like $700 for all 4. and i already have the tires (i think theyll fit, not sure yet.)

Tbomb, I like your taste. Lets put it this way...Get the silver ones if want it to last forever, cheaper, and easier to take care of.

Get the chrome ones if you want heads to turn, if like washing your ride, and just the shiny appearance...LOL!

Either one will look nice.

xplor, yeah, im leaning towards the silver ones too. ive had chrome before, and they easy to clean, its just that you have to stay on top of it (not to mention the silver ones are nearly half the price!) :) either way, i have to wait till around the holidays to do anything - i already blew all my money this summer.

one thing that i really hope works out for me, is that i already have tires, but i dont know if theyll fit; pirelli scorpion zeroes 285 60 r17. theyre pretty wide, and im hoping theyll fit on some 17x8 wheels (i had them on 17x9s at one point.) someone from this site said they wont, but my local wheel guy (who is VERY good at what he does) says they will. ill guess ill find out the hard way, just like i do with everything else, in december, heh.

Ummm.....

I'm almost positive the LS is rear-wheel.... actually, I'de bet money on it.

Yeah I test drove an LS, IT IS RWD!

ooo, RWD, huh? :) that may change things a lttle. depends on if i can find a set of used chrome LS rims (probably not.) and even if i could find the wheels, i bet the bolt pattern is different - thanks ford! :P

Yeah, those Lincoln LS chrome 5 stars are awesome. I think these are similar looking and are available in chrome

These are the Lincoln LS rims. Pretty close to rims above it.

tbomb, I am in the market for some custom wheels and tires too. I am like just going through just about every wheel and tire maker till I see something that I like and most important FIT! The tires you mention with the Pirello Scorpion Zero's you got, which is the 285/60R17 right? They will fit on the rim ranging from 8.0-10.0, so the answer is yes they should fit the 17x8 you probably wanting. You can go to the Pirelli web site and see the dimensional data on every sizes.

Hey TBomb, I found a set of the LS chrome five stars you like on ebay, and according to them they are 17x7 and the correct bolt pattern (5 lug 4.5 BP).

it sucks that the lincoln rims are 17X7. that means he has to get new tires to put on them. the pirelli's are just a little too wide.

hey, thanks for doing some research guys, i just got home from being away all weekend. i guess the lincolns LS wheels are out. but from the pics i originally posted, looks like im leaning towards the silver ones. and, xplor, thanks a lot, im relieved to finally find out for sure that the tires will fit on an 8" wide wheel.

those silver ones are nice. you said about $700 for the set? where are you getting them? thats a great price for 17" rims.

dammit! i wanna be the only one who has them :) j/k.

leenjen, i saw em on www.americanracing.com for $186 a piece, but thats THEIR price. im sure my local wheel guy can get em cheaper than that (i figured about $175 a piece, but thats not definate.)

dont worry, i dont have a digital camera. so i cant post pics even if i do get them. i want a new paintjob first anyway. i dont want to be laughed at for having nice rims on a truck with dull paint.

Awww....C'Mon Leenjen. Just post them anyways. It would look good. I hardly see cobra R wheels on early model explorers.

What is the major diff.....between front wheel drive rims and rear wheel drive rims?

Ryan

the offset.

here's an example using chrome 100 spoke rims:
these are RWD, see how the spokes are deeper

these are FWD, the spokes are at the edge of the rim
