Hello,

Sorry to post this, but I'm seriously that dumb... :o

For my '99 Explorer, I purchased a new Keyless Remote off of eBay. While the seller did provide the instructions, I think I'm having difficulty following them. On the instructions, it says to turn the ignition to "Run". What's "Run?"

Seriously. I honestly don't know. I think it's the "Accessory" position, but on my old Cougar, I went forward, (towards the engine bay).

On the image below, from the '99 Manual, if I start at "2", wouldn't I just go to "4"? I thought I did that, but I'm not too sure....

Any help would be appreciated and sorry again for having to ask this - and actually be serious about it. :dunno:

Run would be the position the key is in when the car is running. If you put it in run but do not start it, you should get all sorts of indicator lights.

That makes sense! I know it's a silly question and all, but when I was doing it, I never heard the locks cycle so I figured I wasn't going far enough - but I didn't want to start my car 8 times in 10 seconds.

Well, after I read your post, I was thinking "what am I doing wrong?" Even if I received a bad transmitter, the locks should indicate I'm ready for programming. Right now, there is a pretty good hand-print on my forehead; It was obvious.

When I reread the instructions and the manual, it says to start from the OFF Position. Meanwhile, idiot me started from the LOCK position, (I assumed you always started from OFF by default). I went to my truck this morning and on the very first attempt, I was able to program my new remote and keep the old one active as a just-in-case.

Stupid me. :(

Anyway, thank you for the advice and, perhaps moreover, for not flaming me for this question.

Thanks! :salute:
