How do I tell which transmission I have in a 2wd Explorer 1999 4.0 ohv, auto overdrive?

Also, this is my primary vehicle, and reverse just quit on me today I was trying to back over a small hump and heard a pop and it would not go backward anymore. All forward gears seem to be working fine. What will it hurt to keep driving it in forward only?

The transmission is a 5R55E, I think? Sorry mate dont know if you'll make it worse by driving it.

You do have the 5R55E, you will be OK driving in only FWD gears but you should get it checked and fixed.
