I have a 2005 sport trac. It died one day with no power when I would try to crank it. Power returned for a little while but, there was a ticking under the hood and the gauges was vibrating back and forth. Now i'm back to no power, all i have had checked is the starter and solenoid on the starter.

Sounds like a discharged battery. I had the same symptoms when I drained my battery while doing some radio work. The gauges were so nervious when trying to crank the engine that it was really scary. After charging the battery all was fine. Also, you might check the cables for corrosion and tightness.

bad battery, or alternator. reason i say that is if the battery is dead the starter clecks but wont crank, and the gauges freak. if the alternator is bad it can drain the battery and cause similar issues
