No power to trailer connector?

I bought a harness that plugs into the factory "tow package" connector under the back of my 2000 xlt.

The connector didn't match perfectly to the factory one,one of the little nubs that lines up the connector was off by a little bit.I trimmed off the nub and the connector fit perfect.

The problem is when i check the new flat four plug with a meter ,it shows no power. The fuse is good.

Is this a viable way of checking the plug?
What else can i check?

Thanks guys.

my connector is on the drivers side, first check to see if there is another grey connector there

That comment from hazmat got me looking from the right to the left tail light. Also, while digging around some other old posts on this site I found some other discussions about what the mystery right side connector might go to.

So what praytell might that mystery plug in the right side go to ?

I am having an issue with my 1999 Ford explorer. I can't get the parking lights to work on my trailer. The trailer works just fine on my other vehicles. I replaced the fuses and have brake lights and turn signals. Any suggestions to the fuses? I replaced the factory 4 flat with another one up in the drivers side rear panel.

Thank you,

FINALLY! thanks dude! I havn't been on in a while and gave up on the truck since its freezing out and not going riding anyway.

This should be made into a sticky,no one seems to know that there's two connectors.

I also cut that extra pin off the plug, i knew it was wrong but it was so close!

Thanks again,i was actually getting ready to start looking into this ag

BTW,leave it to ford to put a secret trailer connector on the explorer!
I inherited a 2000 Explorer from a neighbor last year. Bought the pigtail, plugged it in and experienced everything you have. Finally gave up after almost a year, and then I stumbled upon this forum.....read all your posts and replies praying for the ultimate outcome. BINGO!!!! Went out to the garage and 20 minutes later ( after pulling left taillight assembly) I FINALLY have trailer lights! Thanks Bro... I owe ya! Big Time!!!
