I used a rat tail file to lightly clean the inside of the bore. I also used a very fine soft deburring bit to clean the valve. [Went on to say a bit of anodizing was removed]
any thoughts?

Ouch, and ouch. The use of a file inside the bore is painful to contemplate. A no-no. Removal of the anodizing on a spool is not a good thing either. In time, it can cause other problems. (FORD has much uglier things to say about that than I can repeat here).

While there are a number of things that can cause harsh reverse besides that valve... I am thinking I might recommend you buying a used 5R55E VB and rebuilding it with the kit parts salvaged from your OLD VB. I'd check the solenoids, especially the SSA or SS1. You said you had replaced the EPC?

Now there COULD be issues in the reverse/Direct clutch, but somehow I think the issues are more directly related to what you did.

I do not suspect the seals as being the culprit, but I have been wrong before.

I agree, it was not my preference to do that but I needed my ride. even if I only drive a week or two I will take my chances. I understand metals and all that good stuff as I spent over ten years in the investment casting field and a mech eng. for gas turbine engines.
where can I find a valve body?
Even before your reply I have been looking locally and no one seems to want to give on up. Sine the valve is questionalbe I will probalby want a complete one I can add the superior kit too. Do you know if axiom auto carries them? I have a local store if so.

Tranzparts has them used at a reasonable price. You can call Scott and see if he might even be able to get you one year specific. Tell em Glacier sent you.

I also lost my reverse. Is this difficult to replace the valve body on the reverse modulator? I have never done this before.
