Did you remove the Brake Light or something? My first guess would have been that you have a Check Engine Light, but with no codes, i am stuck also. Sorry! :(

i just checked one of the bulbs, one of em is burnt in the high mount stop light...ever heard of that effecting lock up and over drive?

light bulbsw shouldn't effect 4th gear and TCC. Kind of surprised there are no KOEO codes, since I would expect that the problem is electrical in nature. 1st, check the plug at the transmission and make sure it'splugged in. Make sure the red wire has 12 V with the key on. Make sure there is continuity through the two solenoids.

I have a 93 with a newer transmission, same problem. Havent scanned for codes yet, but same issue.

I'm with Mr. Shorty... BOTH TCC AND 3-4 (OD) missing fairly screams electrical in the usual course of events.

If I remember correctly.. The wires for the Tcc and the 3-4 solonoids are grounds (through the computer). They share a common 12v supply. So if both are out, the 12v to the transmission is problably missing..

I'm not positive but I "think" the 2 wires to the transmission with the yellow stripe are the wires that head back to the computer (it puts then to ground) and the 3rd wire is the 12V..

BTW.. do not ground any of those wires as they aren't really grounds.. they go through the computer which puts it to ground through circuits..

I lost overdrive when my VSS sensor on my transmission broke. Perhaps it may also be your problem?

So what did you find rriggs?????

ya ya ya BUMP

I need to know because i have a 92 X with no 4th or TCC.

Nevermind......the trans OD circut is toast.Have to rebuild

I have a short in the TCC or the 3-4 shift solenoid.. The problem is that I have the time nor the money to fix this.. I was wondering if it's safe to drive my explorer around town (everything under 45mph) with the connection to the TCC and 3-4 Solenoid disconnected?? Will it cause anymore damage??

will not cause any damage. just excess heat.

Excess heat where? Transmission? My 4th gear doesn't kick in until after 55mph.. When does the TCC and or 3-4 Shift Solenoid kick in? I'm really in the dark when it comes these solenoids sorry.. I would think that the 3-4 shift solenoid and torque converter don't kick in until 4th gear is needed.. 4th gear isn't needed on my explorer until after 55mph.. So I'm guessing that no excess heat should be caused as long as I stay under 55mph correct?

thanx for any input..

the TCC kicks in about 40 MPH... the TC is a big heat producer pre lockup... so with zero lockup you will produce more heat. heat is not damage. Just a fact to deal with.

Ok cool.. well thank you so much for your input.. I will keep it under 40mph unless absolutely necessary.. There is only 1 road which is 45mph and it's only about 1/8 of a mile..

I'd not worry. Just know you are "on a hot day" kinda thinking... watch the temp gauge, if it is ok, you are ok. Go as fast as you like.

Well, it's 1:58am and I just spent the last hour outside putting everything back together which I had torn apart when looking for that darn short.. LOL Who knew it would be so obvious..

anyhow, I got the inside of the explorer up to driveable level and asked my wife to go for a cruise with me.. We stopped by the gas station to put gas and I began putting 10 bucks of gas.. My wife and I were cleaning the windows when I finally realized I heard liquid pouring on the concrete.. 7 bucks worth of gas was spilled out all over the concrete.. The gas nozzle was in the truck properly but it's as if the gas was just not getting to the tank.. It was spilling out before it was getting into the tank.. Now, my friend replaced the fuel pump and we had to drop the tank.. could we have forgot to connect a hose or something or not placed the gas tank up properly???? What could be the problem here?
