noise sport trac

I have an 07 sport trac. I can hear a whining noise that increases with speed in my truck. Also when I put my truck in neutrel I can hear a tick. Haas anyone else had this problem?? Or if you know what these noises are??? The noise seems to come from the rear end. I am not sure if the noise is from a broken part or if a part is frozen We have had -35 and lower temps for more than a week.
