I Just Took Delivery Of An 07 Sport Trac And Have Only 700 Plus Miles On It. I Have Noticed That At Idle The Motor Sounds Like A Diesel Wannabe. It Sounds Like Valve Clatter. The Question I'm Asking Is Is This Normal. Thanks Much Cooltj

I don't think that sounds normal. One thought that I had is that you might be hearing the injectors clicking if the engine is otherwise quiet. You can test this out by using a stethoscope (or just a piece of hose) and holding it on one of the injectors to see if it matches the noise you are hearing.

My GF and I were just looking at a 07 Sport Trac with the V8 last weekend and I noticed that the injectors were very accessible on that engine.

If it isn't the injectors, I would take it in and compare the noise to another new Sport Trac (especially if they tell you its normal).

If they offered the 0% interest deal on the 07's, we might have bought the Sport Trac cause my GF really liked it. But I like not having car payments. ;)

thank you for your reply, i have seen the injectors right near the valve covers. we went to buy anything 06 and the kwife fell in love with the trac. thanks again

All of the 3-valve engines are loud at idle, especially at startup. I wouldnt worry about a thing. I am about to turn over 100k of HARD miles on my F150 and haven't had a bit of trouble.

Yeah mine makes that sound as well, "normal" for the 3V V8's

I agree the motor has some injector noise for sure, however my truck has a valve tap.Its loud, and comes and goes mostly after its warm and at idle.I took it back, the techs said they didnt hear it.Just as a FYI,ive worked on cars for 11 years, and my boss 31 years,we both say its a valve tap(lifter bleeding down).Ford said to drive the truck over to them when its doing it,which is hard cause i work the same hours thier service department does.Maybe you can do that if its the same noise as mine.

I would agree with the tappet noise I heard it in older motors same problem with the work hours but i will be trying to get a handle on it. and probably raise some hell also
