North Georgia - Late July or Early August

If that's what everyone wants to do we can just do that, or I can look into the other campground.

Anyone else with opinions?

doesnt matter to me...but lets just see about the other too....i wouldnt mind a bathroom ;) :D but just whatever everyone else wants.

Alright, I'm back and ready to chime in on this again.

Chase, sounds like you have really done your homework on this one. I have a couple contact #'s for over there at rich and Beasely that I am going to try out soon. I just got to get settled back in and some stuff taken care of first. email me or IM me with the info you have found so far when ya get a chance.

I've actually kinda fallen behind, I don't have much of an update since I last posted.

Personally, I am really leaning towards camping at the campground, not just by the side of the road. The campground seems like it might be more secure (as far as theft), and camping by the side of the road doesn't seem like it'd necessarily be 100% legal. Not to mention I wouldn't mind a bathroom :D

I'll call them tomorrow and ask about it.

I don't really know much about the actual trails. I've read some directions or whatever, and I'm hoping it won't be too hard to handle.

I think we've decided that we're not going to do Beasley's Knob. It's been ranked one of the hardest trails in the East, and we aren't necessarily the best group to be going at it ;)

Let me know the contact number you have at Rich, that might be kinda cool.

This is pretty much all the information I have at this point.

Also, I assume that there isn't much more interest for this run? There haven't been any more posts, so that seems like a fair assumption.

I'll post back tomorrow when I know more.

your doing more than we are! :D

Alright, well I just got off the phone with the people at Under the Hemlock, the campsite by Amicalola, and it seems like the best bet.

Each individual campsite has tentspace, a fire pit, and a parking space. (There are more spaces a little farther away for extra vehicles.) The campground has a bathhouse with showers and bathrooms and all that, and they're really close to Amicalola.

Unfortunately, each campsite has a maximum of 5 people, and there are currently 6 people on the list, so we'd need at least 2 campsites. I don't really think that's a problem though.

Depending on how the numbers add up and how many people are at each individual campsite, the cost will be around $33 or $34 total (per night), and I figure that's less than $12/person if we all split it. Of course, I also don't know how many people are going to want to camp Friday night or just meet up Saturday morning or how people want that to work.

I also don't know how many people are going. As I said, I assume there isn't any more interest (Caleb?), and I guess if anyone else wants to come they'll say so later and we'll figure it out.

The lady recommended that we make reservations, but I'm going to hold off til I hear from everybody on the list.

I'll check a map later tonight just to doublecheck that this is the location I'm thinking it is and that it's close.

So now I need everyone on the list to just doublecheck that the price is ok, and also say whether they want to be camping both Friday night and Saturday night, one and not the other, or neither. Thanks guys!

(Once we get this figured out, I guess I'll move onto the next challenge, which will be figuring out information about the actual trails :D )

EDIT: This is the website for Under the Hemlock, just in case anybody wanted to take a look.

wow your awesome chase! ;) Yeah me and chris along with jonathan are still coming.

As far as the camping goes what you suggested is cool with me. Sound like a good palce. And yes we all would be camping friday and saturday night.

anyone else want to join....I'll post some more on the sXc board...and some on FXN to see if there's anymore intrested

Awww, keep the praise coming! :D :D :D

So I'll have Chris, Jonathan, and you down for both nights. I'm doing both nights, and I'll check with Noelle on AIM sometime since she seems to not really be posting on here. I also want to hear from Mark before making reservations. I don't want to just assume he'll be ok with spending the money.

And see what the other boards have to say too, that'd be cool

got some people on FXN interested in going...when do we need to know who all wants to camp by?

There's no set date I need to know by. I'm just getting curious. But if we want to wait til later so we can be sure about numbers, I'm sure that's fine too.

Ive just found this thread because I got an email about it.

Im very interested in going, but I dont know exactly how well the exploders going to hold up. I got a little water in it mudding about two weeks ago and it starts fine every time and runs well, but its a very rough ride and the idle is rougher than ever too.

I think it might be fine if I try to avoid the mud...

I have been talking with some guys about Beasely. It isn't the killer place ya'll are making it out to be from what I have heard. From the map, it has several trails, ranging from a dirt road to Extreme with some in the middle.

The guy I talked to said he recommended at least 33's thoughfor the medium to hard trails. Is that for anyone else going?

Sorry about the delay, I was in Florida for a few days there

Matt, honestly I don't know enough about the trails to know if you're going to have problems with mud. I wouldn't think so, but I'm not positive. Have you given it any more thought whether you're up for it or not?

Chris, personally I'm fine with just Amicalola and Rich, but I don't know about anyone else. If anyone else has any opinions, now's the time to share ;) ;) :D

EDIT: Also, Allie, do you have any updates from the other boards?

Hey Chase, do you know how to get to the entrance to the Rich Mt. trails? Also, do you have any more information on those campsites you were talking about? do they have a website?

Hehe, that's been up there for a few days ;) :p

Anyway, I don't have any trail information yet. I'm going out of town again tomorrow morning and I'll be getting back on Friday afternoon. Once I get back (next weekend or early next week) I'll start doing that research.

I'm not quite sure yet if I am going to be able to make it. Think family is going to Gulf Shores that weekend. I will know by the end of the week if I am going or not.

this is getting closer cant wait! :D :D

I just got back from Kentucky, sorry about the delay again.

Something has come up and I just realized I may have to stay in Atlanta that weekend. I'm trying to see how that develops and if I really do have to stay here. I'll let everybody know in a couple days.

Chris e-mailed me a site about Rich Mountain the other day, I figured I'd put it up for everyone to check out: 4WDriver.com. From the main page, scroll down on the right column and click on "Where to Ride", then select "Southeast (Region 7)", then scroll down to Georgia. (It won't let me link direct to that individual page  )

So who is still planning on going this weekend? I have a map of the Rich mt trails being faxed to me today from the ranger station. They said all trails were open and good to go.

Come on everybody...someone has to come help pull me out;)
