Hello everyone. Want to ask if anyone knows what year/years explorer had the round plug on the O2 sensors? Need to know since ordering one online and my plugs are square. I'm not sending it back so the year info will help when going to the yard to cut the upper one off. Thanks.
I don't know the answer here, but looking at the parts on RockAuto for a 2004, all of the sensors for the 4.0L v6 and 4.6L v8 have round connectors. This means that the fitting is round where it inserts to the receiving wire harness.
If you look at the Motorcraft part (upstream sensor),
and use the red arrow to look at all of the pictures, you will see that the insert end of the connector is round, but the back end of the connector is square white plastic. Most of the available parts look like this, round connector with a square back. If you can, you may want to disconnect one of your sensors and have a look at it to make sure of what you are looking for.
It is also generally a good idea to include your engine version in your post.
RockAuto has a nicely organized part catalog and if you look up by year and engine you will generally find the correct part.

Just type "O2 sensor" in the box next to RSS where it says "part name or part type" (its under Exhaust & Emission).
It looks like there might be some variation in the length of the connectors, so that would be one thing to check on before ordering. You don't have to order from RockAuto, but their prices are generally very good and it's a good place to start looking. I do often do a search on the part number once I know what I am looking for. You may find it for a better price elsewhere, or for a similar price with free shipping or something like that. RockAuto does not have any free shipping. Of course, neither does anyone else but with some other retailers the price of shipping is already included. It never hurts to check.
O2 sensors can be very difficult to remove so you might want to try and see if you can get them at least loosened before plowing ahead. That has been my rule for a long time now.
