Hi--I'm a newbie with an 1998 Ford Explorer V8
question. I pulled code P0153--the bank 2 fwd oxygen sensor slow to respond. It seems this is the easiest sensor to replace w/o tearing through the center counsole. Q1: Do I really need the 3/4 inch special O2 sensor socket and (2) should I get an OEM part from Ford dealer or will Autozone, etc. dealers sell me the same thing? Thanks, CBeattie

a 7/8 inch wrench will work. Disconnect it first though and double check it is fully seated and connected well, and, check the wire for rubbing against the front drive shaft.

I would use a geniune motorcraft part. Most cases it will pay for itself.

Turdle,

Thanks. I'll give it a go and will check the wires too.

I exchanged my O2 sensor because of PO153 early this year. Just use normal wrench should work. The sensor was very tight and probably had rust sitting there for about 13 years. Mine is 98 EB V5. Be patient and don't overforce it. Use some anti-Seize lub on the new sensor.
