My 94 EX pings like hell under load...like a can of spray paint being shaken vigorously.

If I remove the octane shorting block, the problem goes away, but my mileage goes to heck...

I'm thinking of installing a toggle on the dash for driving on hills. Shorting block on for regualr driving / shorting block off for hilly driving.

Am I nuts?

Personally, I would go after the issue that's causing that. Removing the shorting bar does not solve the problem, it only masks it. Use higher quality gas, decarbonise the head, fix vacuum leaks, clean injectors, something.

I am sadly familiar with this issue. Try cleaning/replacing your MAF, I've heard of Seafoam working, too.

I agree 100%.

try chevrons techron complete fuel system flush put about 6 gallons of gas on it take short trips to the store over a day or so youll have 30 percent more gas flow through you injectors only product that has really worked

that will work for the fuel but there is an exhaust problem and cold air also so run high test :)
