Okay gang, here it is.

Start discussin' we saw it with my son and his fiancee and talked all the way home in the car (we saw it almost an hour away)

Like the other two, I was dumbfounded until we started talking about it (except for a few things that are right in your face) so I'll let you all start and I'll chime in where and when I can...

So uh... What did the ending really mean??? What are everyone elses thoughts??? Was it all about freeing the people that wanted to be freed, or was it about killing off Smith (virus) before he took over the Matrix... Either way, the ending left me wanting... Maybe there was just way to much hype behind the whole thing... Seemed like 4 years of waiting for a simple ending...

I really did love the war in Zion thought... That was really killer... Overall it was a good movie... But I'm with others, I think a 4th one could still be done...

Oh, and the 2nd one was my favorite of the three...

The first was my fave but I liked this one...What the heck happened to Neo? The oracle made it sound like he should still be alive.

i took it as neo being alive still because of all thel light coming from him. i thought it was a great movie. like i said in the other thread... a lot of people will think it sucked because it was deep and not just a clear cut plotless movie. the zion fight scene was absolutely amazing. the special effects in that sceen and the machine city were amazing!!
they did leave it slightly open at the end to interpretation but i think the wachowski brothers made it clear that it was over with this one. basically you've got two sides fighting for their cause that come together to take on an evil that could destroy both sides. it was almost like it was a game between the oracle and the architect in which the architect had won everytime and this was his time to lose.

I agree with that... I enjoyed the movie overall, but I have a lot of friends who want to go see it this weekend, and I dont think I would sit through it again. The effects were great, overall... As far as theactualy story goes, I felt like the end was kinda weak... I mean I understand what your all saying, but the oracle, sitting in a park, with the little girl... and she says "oh I think wellsee NEo again"... and thats it... What the heck? (Yes Iunderstand the architect was tere too)... I dont know maybe I am thinking too hard haha... I liked it though is the overall rating... haha

The movie was great right up until the ending.

I thought the point was to win human freedom, thus destroying the machines. They called a peace?! What is that about. The Oracle, "Release the ones that want to be freed".

So the machines will release some but not all of the human batteries. The machine will eventually realize that the more he releases, the less power he will have to "power" his machines. At which point in time he will stop releasing. Guess what, war again.

And how do you tell these people that their world is completely fake. Stop the program and announce what is really going on, then give them the choice to stay or go.

And what about Zion, are the people there going to be content to live underground forever?

Somebody please explain this to me. I feel I am on the edge of a major breakthrough in understanding this movie, but need a push.

Brian

Oh yeah, the second one was the best.

did anyone catch why he was able to stop the sentinals in the real world? i forget if they mentioned it or didnt.

bc it was his "time"... haha, no, i remember the oracle saying something about him being able to feel them, and stop them, but him not being ready, but she also said something that lead into his ability to choose... which had to deal with how Smith is defeated, bc Neo chooses to get back up and not die when Smith "sees" it...

Jason, you're right Neo didn't die. If you remember waaaay back to the end of M1, Neo makes a phonecall that takes place 19 months after the first movie. M2 and M3 take place only 6 months after M1 ends, so we know Neo is still alive at least 13 months after the end of M3 :D

Did anyone else think that they draaaaagged Trinity's death out?

The audience where i saw it started lauging and "ho-hum" ing.

I saw an interview on the morning news with Lawrence Fishy and he said the W. Brothers are purposefully ambigious about a lot of the details because they want to leave them open for discussion. As far as Neo 'dieing' it seemed to me they were making a huge Jesus reference. But maybe more from a Native American point of view. Why? Well, the last we see of Neo he's shining mad bright like the sun. Then we see the Oracle sitting on the bench and the sun is coming up. The sun comes up every day in the Matrix just like our world so it shouldn't have been a big deal. But the Oracle and the little girl pointed it out and said something about the little girl doing it for Neo. So what? Well when I was in scholl we learned that the Native Americans had stories that went explained all of the things that happened in nature. Example..When it rains it's because the gods are crying. The sun is a man on a charriot racing across the sky. Etc. Anyway, seems similar to me.

I was talking with some people and we couldn't understand the reason for the Trainmaster and the middle world. It didn't play into the end of the film so much anyway so I found it to be unnecessary. All it did was show how much Trinity cared for Neo. But they definitely took the long way.

BTW I really liked the scene where they break through the clouds and see the sun. Cool s**t. And then trying to jumpstart the ship on reentry. How f***king cool would it have been if when they broke through the clouds there saw another human race hiding there from the machines. Like the Besbin (sp?) cloud city.

PS Trinity should have died faster!

Yes definitely.
Everyone in the movie theatre was clapping when she finally died

That one punch shot at the end of the fight where they did the zoom of his fist going through the drops and hitting Smith was INSANE!!!!! I think the movie had some SERIOUS undertones of religion!

The Oracle told the Architect that 'the peace will last for as long as it can." I think she's pretty aware that it isn't going to last forever. Peace never lasts. The Architect had to keep his word to Neo because he's a machine. But there was no mention of for how long. How about that ship crashing into the door or the tower in the dock falling over? :D I worked on those scenes.;)

zensius.. those scenes were amazing! you did a fantastic job.

part of me was thinking that neo and trinity should have nailed the EMP when they landed and killed half the machine city right off. i think a lot of folks expected it to end with neo beating the architect/big face spike machine leader/whatever, and the peace idea will dissapoint. peace is never as interesting and they did leave it open to saying it will eventually end. it was kind of quick at the end to jump from the matrix and the machines to being the ultimate enemy to smith being the ultimate enemy. so basically the oracle and neo were one side, while the architect and smith were the other side. did the architect want smith to win this time too though even though he was powerful enough to destroy all the machines and that was his goal? basically everyone knew the last fight b/w smith and neo would happen except the humans. why was the spiky leader machine questioning what neo wanted to do then? he should have already known. i didn't take it that anything was differerent from the past 6 "ones" except that neo got up at the end.
i wondered the same about the machine/human peace. will the humans be content to live underground? or will the machines and people become pals and help each other out. we all know there are way too many civil rights advocates around to let that fly!

another scene that i thought was great was the fight scene when they entered the weapons check area. that was awesome too. kinda reminded me of the one at the base of the skyscraper in M1.

I'm really surprised with the amount of religious people here that more people didn't catch the religious meanings.

While it isn't textbook perfect. The obvious closest analogy you can make for Neo is that he's Jesus. He died so that the Zionians (or whatever you want to call them) could live in peace and harmony, but eventually that peace will be over and Neo (the savior) will have to return. You can see the biblical references all over the movie, the prevolence of the number 3 (Trinity, the three power lines, pump the engines three times, three times again but slower, Neo Trinity and Morpheous, the three of them are always in the Matrix, three captains three objectives, three captains arrive back at Zion at the end).

Then theres the question of the Oracle. Who is the Oracle. Smith calls her "Mother", did the Oracle create Smith to rebalance (or unbalance) the equation, or was Smith simply just reinforcing that the Oracle was the mother of the matrix? Why at the end when Neo and Smith are both destroyed is the Oracle's body left over lying in the rain. Has to be some relevence there.

I wish I were better versed in the bible to look for other references...

I definately think it needs to be seen a few times. I understood Reloaded a lot more the second time I saw it, we're going to go see this one again this weekend. I'm meeting the kids for dinner tonight so I'm sure they'll have new ideas about it for me lol.

I don't think Mr. Smith and the Architect were on the same side. I think that Mr. Smith was in the middle of a mutiny from within the Matrix. That's why the architect let Neo in to fight him. If all this is true than some scenes of Mr. Smith doing more damage in the Matrix would have helped. Like when he said "Do you like what I've done with the place?" When Neo first appered on the rainy street for the fight.

Along with the slow motion face punch I also liked how when the lightning flashed the fight would do that zoom and slow motion effect. So when there was enough light, they'de slow down the fight for a few seconds to show you what's going on. It's a great trick to go from normal speed to slow motion to normal speed again without it seeming awkward. Very cool.

Stephen, that was part of what we talked about on the way home after the movie. There was a lot of religious undertones. Thats why we took time out to go see it (we work at church). :) The more you guys talk about it the more I think about it... I will definately say I should see it again to understand more... I learned a lot more the 2nd time I watched Reloaded, and Im sure Ill get it that way with this one too...

The religious undertones were definitely a big part of all three of the movies. Zion, Nebuchadnezzar, etc. But I also believe that Smith was a tool for the architect and that as the Oracle said he was brought about to balance the equation. The Oracle mentioned that that was the only way the architect could see anything was in equations. Smith was unable to see past his decision in that final fight scene. He knew what he was going to do but he thought that that was the end.

Also. I thought that the "one" from the previous matrix' did not choose to try and save zion like Neo. I thought that they all made the choice to return and select a few people to go onto the next matrix. Maybe I should watch Reloaded again.
