No I definately think the anomaly is Smith. The Architect says to Neo "You are the eventuality of an anomaly" then he goes on to describe what Smith is capable of doing, not Neo. I think Neo is the one, but Smith is the anomaly. The Agents however think Neo is the anomaly. The Architect also says that he's tried his best to design the matrix so no such anomaly occured, but the function of the one is instrinsic to the operation of the Matrix...
It the beginning of Reloaded Smith says to...himself "Its happening exactly as before" and he says back "Well, not exactly" leading me to believe that Smith was present in the previous Matrixes, but he did not multiply. If you think about it, Smith made a choice not to be deleted, so the problem is STILL choice.
If thats the case, then the Oracle allowed Smith to replicate himself into her in Revolutions that would have been the change, the dangerous game she played. My thinking now is the Smith that called the Oracle "Mom" was actually the Smith that Seraph was turned into. The Merovingian called Seraph the "Prodigal Son".
NICE59, What Morpheous must have meant was that when the previous One selected 23 people from the Matrix to repopulate Zion, the Architect said this was also the purpose of the One. I still can't figure out how old Morpheous is, if he was one of those 23...
Ed, My thinking is that the symbolism is only symbolism that is crossed over between religions, allowing people to draw their own conclusions based on their own experiences. I was raised Christian, so I immediately caught the Christian symbolism. However, after seeing it and Reloaded again and talking with the kids I definately see other symbolism that is definately NOT christian. Like the light Neo's body is pulled into at the end, it is definately some Hindu God, the part where Neo sees Seraph and he's orange not green, he's sitting with his arms outstretched and his legs crossed like ANOTHER Hindu God. There's the little girl, Sati, who has all kinds of Hindu connotations. Then there are the names. The Merovingian race was said to have co-mingled with the Human race and was cast down to the earth, becoming the gods of the Underworld. Percephony is of course, the goddess of the underworld. The Oracle says that the Merovingian is one of the oldest programs...
I think there is more to him than we're seeing also...
We can discuss the religious symbolism here, its not really a volitile subject...
