I think the only problem with that one Jason is that the anomaly apparently was present in the previous Matrix's but it seems that Smith was new and unexpected. Also, Neo must be the one because only the One could use the Key to reach the source right?

On another note... if an EMP was able to take out the whole stinkin' machine army at Zion why didn't they just install one in the city??

Maybe lol.

I also agree that the anomaly is Smith. We've been doing some looking around on the web for all the names and researching the names gives you a LOT of insight into the story. We're going to put a whole list together here and I'll post it (by we I mean my son LOL, I'll take the credit ;) ) From looking up the names the theme of the movie is DEFINATELY not christian. Its EVERY religion. Every religious theme is present in many or all religions....

remember in M1 when morpheus is talking to neo about the first "ONE" and morph was saying 'he could change the matrix as he saw fit. he was the first to unplug us' what did that mean? and does it have any relevence to the other two? because if thats true, then smith could change the matrix as he saw fit, but you never saw neo CHANIGING the matrix, just defying it. hmm, maybe this has nothing to do with the other two, but i just remembered it

I was actually saying that I think the anomaly is Neo, the One, not Smith. I didn't get any indication that anything like Smith had shown up in the previous Matrix's... but the anomaly was part of those previous ones.

I do agree that the Matrix has much more than just Christian parallels but I do think that there seems to be a large number of Christian ones. Don't forget too, that there are many things in Christianity that mirrors other religions so there may be some crossover there.

Just a suggestion, but you may want to start a seperate thread in the religion forum to discuss this further.

I just saw it last night and I thought it was [email protected]$$. I thought it was sweet when they were holding the deck and then the fight scene with Agent Smith was just as badass. One of the best movies I've seen in a long long time.

No I definately think the anomaly is Smith. The Architect says to Neo "You are the eventuality of an anomaly" then he goes on to describe what Smith is capable of doing, not Neo. I think Neo is the one, but Smith is the anomaly. The Agents however think Neo is the anomaly. The Architect also says that he's tried his best to design the matrix so no such anomaly occured, but the function of the one is instrinsic to the operation of the Matrix...

It the beginning of Reloaded Smith says to...himself "Its happening exactly as before" and he says back "Well, not exactly" leading me to believe that Smith was present in the previous Matrixes, but he did not multiply. If you think about it, Smith made a choice not to be deleted, so the problem is STILL choice.

If thats the case, then the Oracle allowed Smith to replicate himself into her in Revolutions that would have been the change, the dangerous game she played. My thinking now is the Smith that called the Oracle "Mom" was actually the Smith that Seraph was turned into. The Merovingian called Seraph the "Prodigal Son".

NICE59, What Morpheous must have meant was that when the previous One selected 23 people from the Matrix to repopulate Zion, the Architect said this was also the purpose of the One. I still can't figure out how old Morpheous is, if he was one of those 23...

Ed, My thinking is that the symbolism is only symbolism that is crossed over between religions, allowing people to draw their own conclusions based on their own experiences. I was raised Christian, so I immediately caught the Christian symbolism. However, after seeing it and Reloaded again and talking with the kids I definately see other symbolism that is definately NOT christian. Like the light Neo's body is pulled into at the end, it is definately some Hindu God, the part where Neo sees Seraph and he's orange not green, he's sitting with his arms outstretched and his legs crossed like ANOTHER Hindu God. There's the little girl, Sati, who has all kinds of Hindu connotations. Then there are the names. The Merovingian race was said to have co-mingled with the Human race and was cast down to the earth, becoming the gods of the Underworld. Percephony is of course, the goddess of the underworld. The Oracle says that the Merovingian is one of the oldest programs...

I think there is more to him than we're seeing also...

We can discuss the religious symbolism here, its not really a volitile subject...

I would say no. In the first matrix he described a man being born into the matrix with the ability to change it. That guy being one of the 23 probably the "one." He also seemed to be unaware of any previous Matrix's But maybe that theory is too easy. He was definitely unplugged at some point.

I'm not saying the discussion on the religious aspects of the Matrix would be volitile... I just think it is such a rich subject it could warrent an entire thread to itself. ;)

TO CLEAR THINGS UP..

To clear things up. Heres a quick reference.

This war going on, is just a war between Humans and the machines after a dispute over Machine rights(SEE ANIMATRIX). The Machines started the matrix to imprison the humans. The architect and the oracle are a "operating system" made by the machines. The reason the Oracle looks different in Revolutions is because she had to REFORMAT after a virus attack. The Train man is a "BackOrfice" virus, a sort of hacking tool to jump from computer to computer. Agent smith is a Virus which consumes everything and is able to jump anywhere. Really the matrix is all a program. At the end of the movie when the architect says the humans are being freed, he was speaking for the machines. And Neo is sort of like a Nortan Anti-virus. GET IT NOW?

If u watch the Animatrix it'll fill in alot of holes in the movie.

If it was the Microsoft version the characters would look different (ala the oracle) every fifteen minutes because they'd be reformatting and rebooting all the time.:p

LOL, naa its not that simple. Thats the basic framework, but the real question is understanding what statement the brothers are trying to make and what paralells they're trying to draw to that computer explanation, and the real human experience.

Well, I won't get into the philosophical discussions. I think you guys covered it well.

I just wasn't happy with the ending. Not believable to me. I find it hard to believe that the machines would agree to peace, because they know from history it should only last a short while.

Many :chug: :chug: :chug: for the great cleavage shots of Monica Belluci. :p  :p

I don't. They knew that they could not defeat Smith alone and did not want to become extinct themselves. So when Neo asked for peace and offered himself as the channel, they obliged. They are bound to it now until something else changes. How long the time period of peace is cannot be determined. All we know is that in the near future, the war will be over.

I am still waiting to hear an explanation for how people know Neo is making the phonecall 19mos later in M1. Anybody?

I dont think he is making the phone call 19 months later. Like I sadi earlier when he makes the phone call it says 1999. Which is the same year that Neo thought it was when he was pulled out of the matrix.
