Well Rick sure likes to move when on the trails. I'm with Msupertek, It's nice to be able to enjoy the scenery along with the rush of good wheeling.

LOL..... yeah, I'm gonna sneak into Rick's rig this year and put a governor in it :D

Moab is 90% pure rockcrawling, you'll average about 3 or 4 MPH....... some trails have sand wash whoopdidos to fly on, but only for a few hundred yards, and then you have to crank it back down for the rocks again.

Picture Airstrip in Gilmer, only made of rocks. Or Dewoody. If you can run those at 50mph, then you can run Moab at 50mph..... I don't think so :D

Ok this is what Ive seen, obviouly I am not the only one camping. I noticed that some are camping in an area called canyon land (national park), I would like to camp together with the group who is camping rather than find my own area to camp. So those of you who are camping and wouldn't mind a nieghbor, do you mind saving me a spot and letting me know how much I owe ya. I would greatly apprecciate it and will pay you promptly upon my arrival at Moab.

So any volunteers?:)

Oh and shouldn't Rick be on the big dawg list as well???

Its actually Canyonlands Campground which is an RV park right in town: http://www.canyonlandsrv.com/

I'm not sure how busy Moab is the weekend we have planned will be but I'd reserve a spot in advance.

yah I definitely want to camp with some other dudes as well. I'm looking at the canyonlands right now...although I'm still working on my dad to come with me.(he's gotta look at his busy work schedule). He is basically the deciding factor for now, so I'll letcha all know as soon as I find out. I will make reservations right away too when I find out if we can come out. I got high hopes tho, this is one trip that I don't wanna miss!!!

I am seriously considering showing up for this.. And if I do, denting the zuk isn't a big deal. :D

I just need to sit down and figure out my vacation schedule..

Thnx jefe I am gonna reserve a spot today at the campgrounds.:D

Hey everyone...I'm considering trailerin da rig out for the trip...my pops has a 02 explorer with the v6. Do you think it could handle towing it out or is that not a good idea?

Towing your Explorer on a flatbed wsith a 02 SOHC Explorer.....Eeeekk stopping is the hard part...

thats alot to ask of that truck!

Has he got 4.10? And make dang sure you keep it out of overdrive if you do it, like 410Fortune just wrote that is asking a lot from the truck, just take it easy if you do it and don't fry pop's tranny, that'll probably put you in the doghouse :)

I just looked it up - Ford rates the 2001 V6 Explorer 4x4 at 7k lbs tow capacity (yea, right)

It will stress the transmission pretty hard, and probably be hard to stop.

Call Ryder and rent a 3/4ton truck and trailer..

I wouldn't recommend it. That V6 will be complaining trying to move 2 explorers (and trailer and gear) up through the mountain passes at 7,000 ft. (not to mention the tranny)
Heck, my V6 and tranny can hardly move my fully loaded explorer at a decent speed through those passes.

I think you won't have any problems, just keep it out of overdrive, I am more worried about the dinky trailer hitch they come with than its capabilities to pull it. (I know it can pull it because a friend of mine trailered his X to Gilmer last time we went out with his brothers 02 Explorer. He said it pulled ok (nothing to brag about). A truck is better but the X will work, just no overdrive. Having that extra gear in the tranny (5 speed auto trans) helps out quite a bit with heavy loads.:D

hmmm...well mixed emotions I guess...that would probly be a helluva lotta $$$ to rent a truck/trailer. I guess it would be cheaper than a new tranny tho. How far did he tow it to Gilmer?

I don't know about the gearing. Do I just look on the door tag or is there an axle tag? I guess I'll look around when I get home.

It was only a three hour trip up there and back...

Hey guys I just tyhought we needed some motivating pics here :D

This is the first major obsticle on "Behind the Rocks" trail.
