My girlfriends parents own a Shelby Series 1, its like a year old... this thing is HOT. My god i love how fast it is. WELL, the close to 200 Grand sticker price speaks fo itslef. Anywayz, my girlfriends mom was driving it a couple days ago and whadya know, she gets into an accidnt with some old hag out here in Seattle, WA. EVEN WORSE, the old lady starts screaming how its not her fault that the car costs 200,000 dollars, and that it wasnt her fault she smashed the Shelby with her POS in the first place.. JESUS, some people..... well her Shelby is F'ed now, just thought i'd share this story.

Always sucks when something of yours gets damaged, regardless of its price. But I can see the "ol hag" 's point (see how you like that comment in a few years). I can see your girl's mom right now "You hit my $200,000 car you bleep bleep bleep bleep". Now, if the accident was the woman's fault thats one thing, but it really isnt her fault she hit a $200,000 car and not a $10,000 one, see what I mean? When you have something nice like that, I agree that it should be used, or otherwise why have it right? But you always take the chance that it will be damaged or destroyed.

The accident was her fault, but she didnt deserve the lashing about the vehicle's price.

Just be happy everyone is okay.

Who did the police cite as being at fault? Did she have insurance?

I agree with Stephen also...no one was hurt and it was an ACCIDENT! I am pretty sure she didn't intentionally hit a 200K price car. Be mad about the wreck...not about how much the price tag of the vehicle involved was.

I want a $200,000 vehicle!!

I don't.... I'm cheap!

So do I!:D

It was the ladies fault

Hehe sorry to offend anyone with my usage of the word 'hag', its just that it was this ladies fault, not my girlfriends mom. Anyways, i dont know what the damage estimate on the Shelby Series is, but probably alot im guessing. Yeah that is a goodpoint Stephen, just be happy about the fact that everyone was ok. Later Guyz

wow how loaded are these people? if they have a 200,000 dollar car how much is their house? 5 mil? just curious

Has anyone else noticed that the more expesive a car is the more likely they will drive it like they paid for the space of road you are on? I would like to here the hags story as to who's fault it was. I bet it was a little of both and swaying a little towards the 200,000 side.

that really bugs the crap out of me. These people in their expensive cars think they have the right of way no matter the situation. I love to scare the living SH _T out of those people. Sorry, had to vent a little about that. They should know better when they see a 9 year old beat to hell lifted explorer that they better watch out.:p

Great Jiminy-Moses... 200k for a car. If I had 200,000 dollars to blow, I think I'd run out of mods for my Explorer. Maybe I could get gold-plated coils and leaves...

"I'm loaded, so I drive like a test pilot"

It has always been my experience that cars on either end of the money spectrum tend to be driven by the least capable drivers. Ironic BMW, "the Ulimate Driving Machine," tends to be driven by the Ultimate clueless *****.

On the low end, they dont care what the he** happens to the POS so get out of thier way.

On the high end, they think if they have the ability to buy it they must have the ability to drive it two its limits.

Exeptions to every rule. We are aquainted with a couple who have a habit of buying expensive cars, (Audi A8, Mercedes ragtop, FORD 150 Lightning, FORD 66(?) Mustang GT350 ragtop and others). The wife works close to home and the husband takes a bus to Boston. If they ever go on a long drive or just hopping around town, they take the minivan or the 95 F250! They are well aware what cars can do and human flesh cannot.

Oh, and if you REALLY must spend $200k for a vehicle, I will reluctantly part with my babied 95 XLT!

I worry more about the POS cars than the ultra-nice ones, mainly because I figure the guys driving the POS's won't care too much about another dent or two. At least the guys driving the nice rides want to keep them that way. Case-in-point: this morning on the freeway in gridlocked LA traffic, an old POS Subaru wagon comes tearing down the carpool lane, then abruptly cuts to the right, directly in front of me and then keeps on going into the next lane, cutting off and nearly hitting both me and the car in the lane next to me (ironically another Explorer). I rarely see people in Benzes, Bimmers, etc. do stupid things like that. They may drive agressively, but not recklessly. Now, boneheads in Benzes doing 65 in the fast lane and talking on their CELL PHONES :shoot: :fire:

Damn I need a PA...

peace

Mike

You know, I have noticed that generally the cost of the vehicle is inversely proportional to the driver's politeness and driving skill. But they don't mess with me. I guess when they see the bent bumper, mud splashes, and battle scars they figure, "hey, this guy ain't afraid of hittnig things". So i generally do alright. And the ricers leave me alone, too. Probably 'cuz my Ex could eat their Hondas :D

Oh yeah, and Mike; when I install my CB, a PA is coming with it :smoke:

I don't know, but it seems like I narrowly avoid three to four accidents a day where some soccer mom driving her weekend Beamer or Merc pull out of a grocery parking lot right in front of my 80 MPH beater with 33's! I lock up the brakes on a daily basis trying to avoid cell phone junkies that think they have the right of way even when they are sitting at a red light. Sometimes I don't think they do it on purpose, based mostly on the look on their face when I start chirping tires because I am right on their ass. People just don't even look when they drive anymore. I was travelling down a road that runs through my neighborhood when a Merc busted a U around a median and would have taken me out had I not seen her and promptly moved up the opposite curb to avoid her. And she never even looked in my direction, just kept chatting on her cell! They know you don't want the insurance bill after colliding with one of their expensive cars, so they do whatever they want. But they sure get out of the way quick when I am barrelling down the freeway.

Mudd, going 80mph in front of a grocery store parking lot could be part of the problem. :D I've done the same the myself many times, the person pulling out didnt judge how fast I was going very well (I was probably 5-10 over the limit anyway) and was looking at traffic coming the other way as they pulled out. (Not sure who to blame for that one, myself for going too fast or them for not looking back before they pulled out) I think we have all had those moments when we just arent thinking or get distracted and almost cause an accident. (If I ever see Fenderguys truck on the streets I might get distracted and hit it :D that would make for a good conversation starter) I used to get pissed at the people who would change lanes with no turn signal, now I realize the second you put the signal on people jump to crowd you out just so they can be one car ahead.:shoot: Sometimes I think certain people were put on the road just for the purpose of being hit, hell insurance companies should give some the money back for getting some of these cars off the road. The elderly..... there comes a certain point where someone needs to take the keys away from them, I don't care how happy driving makes them or if its the last thing they can do, when they become dangerous they need to be kept off the road. I say this knowing that the day is coming when I will have to take the keys away from my old man, I wont be happy doing it but I might just prolong his life and save someone elses.

Well, I may drive a $65,000 car but trust me, I know what I am doing behind the wheel of a car. I would probably put that skill to the test up against anyone else on this site. I've had a lot of training, and a lot of years of experience.

Keep in mind that for every "rule" there are usually so many exceptions that it can no longer be considered a rule anymore.

The exceptions make it the rule :D Like i said, though: generally. I know some people who drive Benzes who are probably the best drivers on the road in my area. Really though, if one can list vehicles housing bad drivers; the ones I see that are really bad are usually Tahoes, Suburbans, or Expeditions. I guess it's the first rule of the road: Big cars squish little cars. :smoke: There's an intersection in town where a two-lane-plus-turn street intersects a 4-lane-plus-turn, but the other side of the 2-lane has a lane for oncoming traffic, a left-turn or straight lane, and a right-turn-only lane. Once I was coming out of the straight ahead lane in my sister's Camry and this Dodge Caravan from the right-turn lane tries to go straight, too. Much honking and cursing that time, nearly got squished. But seriously, all you can do is pay attention to what you're doing and what's going on.

TDG - I know what you mean about the turn signals. 'Course, here most people don't have 'em anyway.

there is definitely something about dual exhaust and 4 mud tires rumbling down the road that makes guys in rice rockets turn their head....and then you pass them. im getting off the point but my son is 20 months old and for months now everytime we get in the explorer he goes "woaeeeeeen" like hes passing someone. (sniff, sniff, proud father moment)

what gets me is a soccer mom in an escalade on the phone yelling at the kids, passing out happy meals at the stop light, and then i get the finger when i honk because the light is green.

200k what the hell..

man i love my explorer.

Ah yes, the old "one finger salute." I was coming back from UCLA a couple days ago on one of our main freeways which is three lanes wide. I was in the left lane and came up behind this guy in an old POS Ford LTD doing about 70. In the fast lane. Not only that, but he was going the exact same speed as the car in the next lane. That car was a little behind him though, so when I came up behind him, the other car was directly next to me, but he had a clear path to pull to the right and let me pass. But he just sat there, even with me riding pretty close to his bumper. Finally, I flashed my brights at him to see if that would get him to at least notice that there is a big red Explorer about a foot behind his slow @$$. So what does he do? He flips me off!

One of these days I'm going to 1-800-EXHAUST someone. Here in CA you can call that number and report a vehicle on the road as a polluter. Then they get a notice from the DMV in the mail saying they need to go in and get a smog check done. If there is one thing that people in CA absolutely HATE, it's smog checks. Plus it costs about $50 to do. Much better than a PA, as it decreases your chances of getting shot by someone, plus you can look at them with a huge #$%&-eating grin as you go by them, knowing what they are going to get in the mail in the next couple of weeks :D :D :D

peace

Mike
