Oil change needed

I have a 2000 5.0 AWD that telling me that it needs an oil change.
I don't put many miles on it, but when I reset it after an oil change, and it sits awhile, it may tell me oil change needed after 500-1000 miles.
I assume it should be based off of mileage right?
I Has anyone else noticed this and found a cure, or do I chalk it up as a quirk of a truck with 230,000 miles.

I just found a post saying it will come up after 180 days on the later ones. So I guess it's normal, I will just have to write the mileage down and keep resetting it.
