Hey all,

So I was looking under the explorer to take a gander at everything and noticed there was oil on the oil pan. Oh no! The truck has a little over 125k on it so I guess this is expected. Im guessing the oil pan gasket might need to be replaced. Can someone confirm this?

I was checking rockauto.com and noticed the oil pan has a upper and lower gasket. Im guessing just getting the lower would be fine? Let me know. Thanks!

Which engine?

Do you have the SOHC or the OHV V6?

Look toward the rear of the engine to try to determine if the oil is leaking from the rear main bearing seal. If you have the SOHC with the lower oil pan and there are oil stains above the lower pan then either the rear main seal or the upper reinforcement section to block gasket is leaking.

The rear main seal can only be replaced by either pulling the transmission (normal) or pulling the engine because it is located between the engine block and the flexplate/flywheel.
