I have a 92 explorer and the oil pressure guage keeps bouncing down as if it just lost oil pressure. My first guess would be a loose wire or bad sensor but with it has come a knock when i first start it cold. It gets a light knock for about 30 seconds on a cold start. Anyone got any idea what this could be?

Welcome to this forum! You might need a new oil pump. Do you have a pressure gauge that you could screw into the stock port to test the oil pressure when it is cold? Your sending unit might not be accurate if it is clogged. Since you mentioned that it knocks when it is cold, it makes me think that the pressure is low.

thank you... and no i dont have a guage.. would one be fairly cheap?

If you are geting a knock and low or no oil pressure the oil pump is shot.

it could be the collector in the oil pan as is the case with mine as well, your best bet is to test the pressure and if it doesnt check out, pull the engine like i shall be doing
