does anyone else use anything between the oil pump and the block? the factory doesn't put a gasket there and wondered if it would be a good idea for me to put some rtv or make a gasket for it

Gasket for what? So the oil doesn't leak from the pump/block connection back down to the pan with the rest of the oil?

I wouldn't use a gasket, and I definitely wouldn't use RTV Silicone. If the gasket falls apart, or if the silicone comes loose, it could cause problems. A nice tight connecton to the block is probably all that's needed.
