I just downloaded a new browser called Opera and i found it to have alot more options for the average web surfer than explorer does. It also can disable those annoying pop-up windows you get visiting certain sites.

It has many shortcuts like right clicking your mouse and moving to the left and right makes the web pages move back and forward to previous sites you visited and if you hold down the control button and use your mouse wheel it zooms in and you can get a closeup of that shot you have been dying to see right inside your web browser.

It also has a meter on it that tells you how fast your downloading the web page that your on and keeps track of all your downloads.

You can get a demo of it which has a advertisement window in it. But if you want to be daring there is a reg code generator you can download that registers it for you magically.

Just thought i would share this info.

I've used that browser before...
Not a bad browser .... but you have to pay for it... unless you find a hack to it... it was built on the same code structure as Netscape(Mozilla).. so it's compatable with basically everything... ... but not a bad browser for the "off the beaten path" person

well i just downloaded it and installed it. I love it. It will take me a few days to get used to but overall it is better than IE and has some cool features that may cause me to use it more than NS.

You don't have to pay for it - but you will get an ad window. I have used it before version 3, it is alot better now and closing on IE - which has alot of security problems. I like the new Opera, with the no pop-up ad feature - IT WORKS, integrated email feature and customizable setup.

I used it a while ago when it was just getting press.. didnt like it. But maybe I will give it a try. Hey... not to play cop or anything, but if you really like the software that much, why not pay for it? Especially on something like opera, where im sure they could use every dime.

Then what the hell would be the point of stealing? LMFAO .... thats like me stealing something out of a dept store and then liking it so much that i go back to the store and giving them money for the hell of it.

Or better yet going to a record store and buying all the songs which i have downloaded off the net.

The main thing i like about that browser is three shortcuts it has. And i dont think those three shortcuts are worth the $30 bucks they are asking for the browser.

I don't like it that much to buy it for that price. They have offered the option to use it with the ad and I have chosen for now to do that.
I remember when M$ Internet Explorer was free and now it is, according to them, so bundled into Windows it can't be removed - without affecting the OS, so now you have to have bought an OS to use IE?

Yea ... that is why Microsoft has had so many lawsuits ... basically they want to own everything in your PC and make you not be able to make many changes.

Cant you buy IE for Mac's? Im not sure on that one though. Anyways... on the topic of opera. I suppose the point is not whether or not you think its worth $30. If its not worth $30, use IE or a free browser. I just think warez is bad for the industry. Music is another story all together. They really getcha on those CD's. But I will use mp3's to decide what CD's I would buy. Thats just me thats all. I guess I would be pretty pissed if I put alot of time and work into something just to have it ripped off.

I dont think Opera is worth 30 dollars but i like the program .... if i had a choice of having to buy explorer or having to buy Opera i would buy Opera instead.

And if you already have an MP3 why the hell would you go out and buy the CD from a record store? That makes no sence. I guess if your rich and you have money to throw away thats fine.

All of these artists dont make thier money on record sales. Most of the money they make is from actually going on tour and concerts. When you buy a CD from a store you are only contributing like 1 cent to the artist. The rest of the money goes to the actual record company.

DId you ever see the special about the group TLC? In their interview they said their album went muli platnum and shit and after the record company took their share each memeber of the group recieved $50,000 a year from the record company.

There was also an article i read somewhere about that and the artists were getting a few cents for each CD sold. That was a few years ago so with inflation they are probably getting 10 cents now.

I think these millionairs can live without my 10 cents. The less money i contribute to these groups the less money they have to spend on the various drugs they take so i am actually doing the world and the groups a favor by using mp3's.

Opera is a FREE browser, the free version comes with the adware, if one chooses they can buy it and get rid of the ads, it's a personal decision. They would not be offering it this way if they didn't feel it was in their best interest for the business in the long run.

We buy M$ stuff because they have virtually cornered the market and there is not alot of alternative. Now you look at Linux and Opera gaining market share. I have a web developer friend who won't use anything from M$, I personally am using XP and Office because it came with the puter and office is what work uses - except for Lotus Notes mail. But, there are 33? Million AOL users like my father-in-law who love what they are getting. If the product is good enough, popular or the only one then someone will be able to charge for it, supply and demand, which should foster competition. Bottom line is Opera offers a usable version without paying - it's a business decision and business is business.

Besides I don't need to make that kind of commitment to something that may not exist next year, like I did with SyQuest, it's not as permanent as a marriage or a tattoo-LOL

This mirrors the above discussion about the music industry and MP3's, remember Winamp started as $10 nagware back in what 86'? and now is free since they make money on the web.

Yeah, my only problem was that the adware version of opera supports the software. Getting a hack to remove the ad's is dishonest.

As for not wanting to invest in something that might not be around next year... that is true, but I would gather a partial reason they might not be, is that too many people are not paying/supporting the software.

Well I went back to IE. I like Opera and it's customizability but it is buggy, would crash and when scrolling down a screen the image would freeze/blur.
Glad I didn't buy, I will look at it again in the future to see if it's a worth buying.

yea same here ... the problem is that most sites are optimized to work with explorer so some sites come out a little messed up when viewing with opera. But the best thing about opera is the zoom inside the browser. Porn has never been eaiser to zoom in .... whooo hooo. Plus its easier to disable the pop up windows.
