One is kinda by the oil filter and other is close to where the drive shaft is. Does anybody know whichone it is? Or have a picture or somthing? thnks in advance nick

What was the OBD II code?

OBD II code,(on board database?) i dont know what thats stands for im only 16 dont know that much about thiis kinda stuff. But when i asked him where it goes he said it should be by the exhaust manifold.

OK im just gonna replace one see if it goes away then if it doesnt try the other one. thnks for your help

My check engine light was on for several months. I did the same as you...had it checked and found out it too was O2 sensors. I changed mine and my mileage went from 14.3 to 16.6 mpg (I also have a K&B filter and Flowmaster muffler) and the Explorer runs a good as a new one.

I have the V6 and there are 3 sensors. One on each exhaust manifold and one behind the catalytic converter. I changed the ones on the exhaust manifold (both). I had to remove the front wheel and the rubber mat that is attached inside the wheelwell to get to the sensor (both side). Be sure to disconnect the sensor first. Hope this helps!

While the guys at Autozone are nice, and helpful...often they knw jack about what a code means and are quick to tell you the problem is an 02 sensor when in fact the sensor is just reporting something else and the sensor itself is perfectly ok. If you can get the code and tell us what the numeric value is, we can help you - possibly saving you $75.

Replacing parts in hopes it fixes a problem is an expensive way to do auto repair. if you'd rather do it that way, it's your call.

Ya thats true they dont really know anything there. After he told me what it was i asked him where its at and he said it should be by the exhaust manifold. When i got home i thought it would be just one senor there but there was like 3 down there. He didnt tell me the code he just said it was that sensor. I just picked one replaced with new one turned the truck on engine light was still on so i disconntected the battery and the check engine light has been off since then. Dum part was 50 bucks. The one that i took out looked in pretty decent shape along with the others that i checked just to see. I would have liked to have tryed what you would have suggested but i didnt know you could fix it by just knowing the code number of it. thnks for the advice next time something comes up ill be sure to get the code of whatever it is.

my light came on and I had a friend scan it to find out it was the o2 sensor. I drove it for a month like that and the light just went off. A month later it passed an emissons inspection no prob.

I just replaced mine and learned from a good source that the O2 sensors are located upstream from the catalytic converters and the two downstream are O2 monitors. I had been given the same diagnosis based on a 'check engine' light that came on a few weeks ago. Yeah, it was $124 for the two and they were pretty coated with 80K miles of exhaust emissions. The driver side was very easy to change, the passenger side was only difficult in disconnecting and reconnecting the plug which is high above between the firewall and engine. The best access is through the wheel well. Turn the wheel hard to the left and pull back the rubber weather shield from the lowest connector and reach straight through. Small hands will have better success. I read another post about increased gas mileage and that would be great. I'm trying to resolve wild gauges and engine shut downs.

If indeed it is an 02 sensor, change them both at the same time, they have a certain lifespan, the other may go out in a week
