Hi guys i know this has been covered but did a search and can't find anything that helps I own a 96 explorer limited AWD with the 5.0 engine. I keep getting the insufficient EGR flow code (also showed misfire on number 8 cylinder plug was bad, replaced it and no more mis-fire)on my truck and I removed the EGR Valve and cleaned it but still getting the code, I really do not want to spend the 140.00 replacing the EGR valve if that is not the problem- most posts point to the DEPF sensor but, my truck does not have one

any ideas on trouble shooting will be really helpful
thanks in advanced Harry

Your truck uses an egr valve operated by a solenoid with a position sensor-it is this sensor position which determines flow-as the pcm assumes if the valve is open EGR is flowing-
low flow indicates the pcm failed to "see"
the valve open-
could be the sensor-linkage or solenoid malfunctioning in your case--

changed the sensor running better but check engine light came back on- will go to autozone and have them scan it later will update-
SAME Code P0401 EGR insufficient flow
BTW cleaned everything up before changing the sensor(IAC,TB)
next move I think will be to remove TB and check for clogs

Had the same problem with a ZX2. Haven't had enough time to check so I am not sure how the Explorers are set up. With the Escort, I replaced the solinoid which was located along the firewall. This was a $90 part but atleast it only took 10 minutes to replace. Was exsited and couldnt wait to start it because I needed to get an inspection before I got a ticket. Turned the engine on and reset the code. Took the car out and not an 1/8 mile up the street light flippled on. I then checked for a vacuum leak (first by checking the condition of the hoses and then sprayed starter fluid on running engine. If RPMs sky-rocket, it is a leak) but found nothing. Finally took it to a Ford dealer and shop. After spending $400 on labor and parts I found that there is another filter behind the gas tank

As I said, not sure how the explorer is set up but you can learn from my story and do as much research as you can. Like start by looking above the gas tank ;)
