Well here's what I'm faced with:
2003 V6 4.0L 4x4, 113k.
I was merging onto a four lane and as soon as I got into 50-60mph it attempted to shift into overdrive, it felt like the explorer was bucking, the bucking stopped after a few seconds, O/D light came on the dash flashing.
So it downshifted back into 4th and I continued my short trip.
On the way home I could feel what I assume the torque convertor slipping when it engages overdrive. It did fine on the way home and managed to get into O/D and stay there but it's obvious there is a problem.
The pictures are the codes I just read and the top reported fixes (Minus transmission replacement, which was #1 ).
I just cleared the codes and have it sitting outside with the negative battery terminal disconnected with hopes of resetting the PCM. I'll crawl under it tomorrow and check the harnesses and for any obvious problems.
I know it has never had a transmission service (family owned) but I didn't see fit to start doing them as I haven't had it for very long and it's been close to 100k miles when I took possession of it.
Is there anyway to easily check the fluid?
What do you all assume the problem is?
Are there any simple or small tasks I can do to help rule any problems out in the morning?
