Just replaced the Camshaft synch and the car runs great.

There was enough of the old flag left to put the new one in the same position.

After the 3rd restart I got 2 1309 codes and wonder if I was one tooth out the truck would still run great but throw the code. It seemed to come on after I punched it.

I also have read that the water temp sensor next to the CPS could cause this.

Is it unsafe to drive this from a timing point of view (i.e. blown piston) or would the truck drive bad if timing was that far out?

I couldn't really tell how to use the tool anyway. My friends shop is about 20 miles away and I don't want to drive it there if I could damage the engine.

To follow up, I was about 10 degrees off by trying to match with old part.

You really need to use the tool. Autozone has them as loaners, the part number is: 84-8400T, it was $25, but you get your money back.

Codes are now gone since I lined up TDC and used the tool.

Do you remember where the arrow was pointing on the tool when you installed it? I have to do mine next weekend and cannot find anything saying what position the arrow needs to be in.
