Hey I have a 2005 Ford explorer 4.0 4wd. My truck was acting sluggish after I did a bad coolant repair for my thermostat housing on a Friday. When I left the house for food Sunday, omw home the suv hit 30 then started to stall or downshift down while pressing gas only made rpm rise with no affect. My reverse works perfectly fine and if I park it and cut it off/on then it drives fine up until I reach 30 mph then it does the same thing over. Code reads P1700 Failed to neutral. Is my tranny screwed because I noticed my plug to the pan has been leaking also and no telling how long neither.

i would start by checking the fluid level and/or replacing fluid, since the p1700 can be triggered by low fluid level. may be worth a look especially given what you describe.

I will be replacing the fluid Saturday when it comes in since it's not sold locally for same price online
