Shopping for some black headlights for my trac but the prices i'm seeing are just crazy because they want 60-100 just for shipping.

so i was reading the how to guide on painting the light housings and was wondering how they compare to the ebay black headlights.

i havent seen any clear pics of the DIY headlights for a good comparison

Maybe there's a reason for that.:dunno:

Outer lens of the rear tails are clear. They still appear much darker than the "opaque" headlights.

I hate the idea of tinting headlights, I like to have as much visible light come out as possible and when you put on coats of that nightshade stuff it restricts that. Same deal with the taillights, I'd rather have super bright ones that signal where my vehicle begins to poor drivers behind me than blacked out cool ones with a red glow.

I paid the extra money for my blacked out taillights, and love them for 2 reasons. They let the same amount of light out as stock housings would, and they actually give the taillight a different pattern, it has a "disco ball" effect around the bulb to make it look like a cluster of LEDs instead of a single bulb.

I haven't picked up a set of the eBay lights yet, but what I can tell from other users and the pics, the fronts are lightly smoked, and the majority of the black you see is from the inside of the housing. If that makes sense. In other words, the housings I have now have clear bottoms and sides, the eBay ones are blacked out on the inside and the fronts are smoked. Or so I think.

EDIT:

The link from swshawaii is what I would do if I were to do it myself though. I see to many people on campus who just spray tint their whole housings and it may look cool but its unsafe.

I'm ordering those blacked out headlights off Ebay sometime soon. I believe the brand was anzo but the cheapest ive seen was $155 or so shipped.

I've been wanting to do Todd's headlight project for about seven years now but never took the time to do it, I think this will be a springtime project to finally do.

i just did mine when i can i will post a pic

You're in Manitoba? I'm over in Alberta... we need to get these black beauties together sometime and tear up Canada!! Keep me posted on the project and if I can help at all! My .02 is don't spray your tails like I did, unless you run out of options... mine aren't as glossy as I wish, but they still put out decent light due to my wicked super awesome sun blaster 9000 ebay special LED's I put in them, ha.

P.S. I probably should have run 33"s, but oh well... Yours will look awesome!

Tell me about the amber driving lights Hammer. Do they actually put out "real amber fog lighting" or just yellow tinted light?

Oh yeah Steve, I love them. I'll admit I just put cheap yellow tint over them, but I also put in Nokya Hyper Yellow fog light bulbs. I think oncoming cars hate them though :(

did you polish and clear coat your tails? link to the LED bulbs?

sorry as for the scale i put it at a 6 out of 10. work with a heat gun makes quick work of the factory adhesive and just be slow and gentle and youll work them apart easily.
