Thinking about painting my explorer....Does anyone know if i did the sanding and primering by myself and then took it to the shop to be painted...would it be cheaper? How much cheaper? Also...would the rust on the dog legs have to be fixed before it was painted?

When I took my '65 Mustang to be painted, it was cheaper if I primed it, but all of the rust had to be taken care of first. Places might be different by you though.

good luck tryin to get any kind of warranty from the shop on your paint...prep work can change everything with a paint job.

It'll be cheaper, but if you don't do it perfect, then it wont be worth it cuz the paint wont last..
