Is there a pic I can reference to how the PCV tube (passenger valve cover to air intake tube) mounts/connects to the valve cover?
Currently the set up is a bit of a hack job, but works at the moment. Original set up has been long gone and looking to make it better if possible.
How was the original method and has anyone replaced this otherwise with success?

If you have the plastic valve covers, I am unsure how it is routed or connected. If you have the aluminum valve covers then it should just have a 5/8"ish hose with a fitting on the end that plugs into your intake boot past the maf. The closest hole to the MAF sesnor/ airfilter box is where it is supposed to route. and the Idle air controller hose routes from the second hole.

If you lost the fitting to plug it into the boot, id recommend bringing a pocket knife to a junk yard and take the pcv hose from another explorer and cut the hose carefully off of the fitting. I cut up my old hose and replaced it with a generic hose that i formed to shape from oreillys.

Currently I have my hose venting and the hole capped dude to me breaking my pcv crank vent and since it is discontinued i have it blocked off for now. only driven it 600 miles or so not sure what long term effects will be. Decreased fuel economy for sure.

I do have the aluminum valve covers. The connection at the intake tube is not the issue. Really interested how the tube connects to the valve cover. Currently using a metal tube/adapter that "fits" directly into the hole in the valve cover. Pretty loose and just "sits" in there. Assume there should be a better fitting "adapter" from valve cover to hose. Maybe a well fitted rubber hose int he valve cover hole rather than a piece of metal tube?

Here on the left side, it should have a large nipple like this. The hose should literally press and stretch over this nipple much like a heater core hose or radiator hose.

I assume that this is the metal tube/adapter you are talking about it this. it is NOT supposed to come off or out of the valve cover. it is supposed to be a press fit. if it is loose you may have to replace that valve cover or find someone who can weld aluminum.

I hope this helps

PCV hoses did connect to the intake.

wolliman,
What you have posted is the vacuum/vent side of the PCV system, which includes the discontinued Crankcase vent (in the valley of the engine), PCV valve, T and hoses that connect to the upper intake. Argos was referencing the "Breather" side of the pcv system, that connects from the valve cover to the intake boot. This provides filtered/metered air into the valve cover to help vent gases in the crankcase.

Good concise pictures you took! Clearest pictures of the pcv valve assembly I have seen to date!

Yes, my tube/adapter is loose. So, will need to 'attach'.
Thanks

Sorry, was a misunderstanding.

If the stub is loose and possible gets out, maybe LOCTITE 638 would help.

Maybe cheaper to find a good used valve cover.
