Your '92 has limited "programability" (is that a word?). Don't get one of those eBay "chips" making unbelievable claims. Those are snake oil designed to lighten your wallet.

If you want to be able to do any type of tuning on a pre-obdII vehicle like a 1st gen explorer you either need to get piggyback controllers or a standalone like megasquirt.

There aren't chips really available.... the stuff on Ebay is just a resistor that you wire into your IAT that makes your ECU think you are taking in colder air which means your injectors squirt out more fuel.... until your engine compensates when it reads a rich condition and you throw a code for IAT out of expected range.

Well i was thinking more along the lines of a chip from a reputable company, not some ebay JUNK lol

You can get blank chips from some companies and have them programmed by your local dyno shop. Check with your local dyno shop and ask them who the recommend. I can't think of anyone who does mail order tuning for an explorer.

I guess thinking about it, there are EEC-IV chips that are programmable using SCT, Diablo or Sniper that would work with the ECUs in these trucks... I don't know why I said piggy-backs or standalones earlier... sorry, when it comes to tuning on pre-OBDII vehicles, I guess I am still more used to the small cars...

btw, the phrase is bat outta hell

Good luck unless you have a very good tuner a chip aint going to do anything.standalone is the only way to go and again hope you have a very good tuner!!
