Wondering if anyone may have modified there radiators and switched over to an electric fan for a 2003 4.6l v8 eddie bauer! I have made several previous mods for performance and also run a sct x3 from the bama boys! It's time to replace my radiator anyway so thought someone might have some ideas on brands, the way to go, just stay with a stock ford/motorcraft, ect? Thanks for any input!

Does ford racing make anything performance for an 03 explorer? It looked pretty dismal to me!

I've been looking at the electric fan from the 4.0L but still researching options.

iirc the Mark VIII has an electric fan and i believe it will fit our 3rd gen's

Mustangs have one too, & they work fine, even for the cobras, so I'm waiting till I pull my tranny then I'll be pulling the fan to see if I can slide a mustang gt fan in first.

Doesn't look like the fan we use, the fans from ford are factory shrouded & drop into tabs on the radiator brackets, thats the part I have to check into. But the 4.0L uses the same radiator, if I remember correctly, so it should drop in, I just need to check electrical connections to see if I can get a harness or just hardwire it with high & low relays like we do our lightnings with a block sensor.

does ford make elec fans for thes ex

I will be putting together a kit for sure, will keep you posted, we have a guy that builds kits for us on the lightning's so it won't be a problem, they work flawlessly, high & low fan with a A/C relay also & an optional manual switch.

Ford says that the 2002 4.0L & 4.6L radiators are the same, so the electric 4.0l fan should fit into the 4.6 with no problem, the wires are part of the main engine underhood harness, so I will probably be wiring up a typical fan relay kit since the harness is nearely $600. And possibly changing the waterpump, won't know till i take the fan off, if its a steel unit, i'll put an aluminum one one to reduce weight or maybe even an electric one.

HA HA just finished my elec fan install total cost was around 80 bucks for every thing i would have done an extensive write up for yall but my camera broke bout 2 weeks back and still waiting on the new one. but i used the fan out of a 98 dodge intrepid i belive. it is a dual fan unit. got 2 heavy duty relays with harnesses out of some 98 blazers and a fan control unit from autozone for 17 dollars. all in all its great will post pics asap.

Good luck, let us know how it does, Be sure to watch that temp gauge, not sure that fan setup will cover the area or provide enough CFM to cool..Did you put in a 180 t-stat....I know its an inexpensive way, but an aluminum block isn't worth taking the chance of overheating to save a few bucks IMO. It was in the 100's here monday & tuesday so proper cooling is a must for me.

ive been looking at oround the 98 degree point here on average and the only problem ive had so far is it did run a little hot yesterday but i found the problem and fixed befor any damage occured ground came unhooked but it works great and runs at normal temp
